I’m on Memories of Ice for my reread. Cements it as my favorite series of all time, easily.

i read theft of swords last year and had a very good time, maybe it'll be my 2025 dive (or at least the first thing on my list that i'll never get to)

busy week with not a lot of reading time but now about 1/3 through dcc 3, series keeps getting better (outside of feeling kind of whatever about the 3 setting)

I like the idea of posting a top ten list. I’ll have to ponder on that a bit though.

My top ten looks like either two authors only (if I count rereads) or it would take me a minute, haha.

Thank you! I hadn't heard of this one so it's a nice surprise, and I'm extremely intrigued by the synopsis / a quick glance online about it. On face value, the 'puzzle' aspect of it, and the multiple storylines / formatting (story in the margins) reminds me a bit of House of Leaves which I really enjoyed. It's a beautiful looking book as well and these days the book shelf is limited to completed series and special books so it fits right in.

I'll share thoughts when I read. Plowing through the end of Sanderson (almost to TAW) then I'll definitely need a break from epic fantasy and this will be perfect.

okay, at the risk of sounding dumb, have any of you that use Goodreads had an issue with it not tracking / reporting your data correctly....? my wife was showing me her Year In Books and she said hers was accurate, so I went and checked mine and it said that I had read 6 books and some relatively low but corresponding number of pages, when I know for a fact I had read more than 6 books. probably not triple digits like some of you superstars here, but still, more than 6 altogether.

I tried to go in and manually adjust when I started & finished each book, but I think I kinda made the whole thing worse. I'm hoping that maybe I just messed something up with it this year and it'll work okay for 2025, fingers crossed.....

    2 quick thoughts:

    1. That's great that you enjoyed book 1 so much as the the way the world 'explodes' in book 2 is something else and it probably means you're going to have a great time with the series overall. Book 1 is sort of derivative as that's what you had to do a lot back then to get published, but book 2 really opens up into the the original special world that the Wheel of time is. The depth and world building is night and day and it only gets better till about the midway point. Speaking of which....

    2. Ignore the naysayers about the slog and decide for yourself. Yes, I personally think some sections are a struggle, but with the series done, and no long waits between books, it's nowhere near as bad as people made it seem. I can only assume a lot of it was because you were waiting for entries and then not getting what you wanted / expected.

I plan on doing another reread at some point but it may be 2026 as I have a lot of other series on the line for next year.

The slog isn’t a slog at all… except for book ten.

They fixed your brain when you were young.

I've really been contemplating reading the wheel of time books for the first time this upcoming year. The struggle I run into a lot the older I get is feeling some sort of stress around reading big series. I feel like I need to read all the books back to back since I don't want to forget any details and that results in me feeling like I can't stop thinking about the next book outside of the series I want to read, even if I'm really enjoying the series.. which then results in me enjoying the series less than I should.

On top of that, I also get sad thinking about only spending time in one world for (most likely at my reading pace) a whole year.

I'm pretty one track mind, so I feel like I can only read one book at a time. Otherwise, I think reading multiple books at a time might solve my problem. Might mess around with trying to listen to a book and read a book. That might mix it up enough.

I feel with them being written pre internet and wikis they recap in the book a lot, and now there are resources for recaps that keep spoilers to a minimum based on where you are in the series. Id say break em up.

I don't really have any advice for this, sorry. Goodreads can be kinda weird but I've never had that specific problem, though I am kind of meticulous about logging/reviewing things right when I finish. Hope things work out for 2025 though!

Awesome! And yea House of Leaves is exactly what it reminded me of too. The coolest thing is you can really put as much into it as you want to and no matter what you’ll have a good time. But if you want to really get into the mystery, like all of the websites they mention they actually created so you can find yourself diving down a crazy ass rabbit hole. It’s a really one of a kind experience and I’ve never really talked to anyone else who’s read it so I hope you enjoy!

Weird question here… I want to start the Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis, since I liked the Narnia books as a kid. But I guess it’s labeled as “Christian sci-fi”. I know his background and some of the allegories from Narnia, but what makes this trilogy Christian? I’m an atheist and preaching about Jesus in a sci-fi book isn’t something I’m interested in.
