My alternate idea was to just pick a song from a record that went unnoticed or flopped upon release, but then later found success under cultural re-evaluation. Basically something like Never Meant

Genuinely surprised no one slipped something from The Shape Of Punk To Come onto this

 

I immediately thought of Refused for this theme! But it felt like that record got re-evaluated, and was a big influence on some bands, almost too soon after its release to fit the “distant future” part of the prompt.

 

Was listening to refused a few months ago and damn that woulda been a good pick, way ahead of it's time

 

I did not even notice the "distant" part of the prompt tbh

 

Distant isn't really the prompt, just the title of the round. The prompt is "Submit a song that sounds like the future (relative to when it was released)."

 

The faint is a great pick. I really hope the postal service doesn’t win again. And I 100% know which one is Spo’s pick.

I just heard this yesterday at a restaurant as I was waiting to get my lunch and was jammming out to it by myself, such a good song

 

Very glad I did not submit "All I Want to Do" by The Beach Boys, although everyone should check out that song

 

I ruled out Radiohead and Deftones early and almost went with something from Korn's debut, but figured it might not do well here. Second time I've almost submitted "Film" by Aphex Twin as well

 

I drew a real blank on this one and didn't trust myself to come up with anything before time was up, which I think is very evident in my pick lol

 

Deftones was on my list too, second time in the league I’ve come thiiiis close to picking Cherry Waves. For sure falls into that Never Meant category

 

That Panchiko song someone submitted in a past season woulda been a big hit in this round

 

Judging songs for this prompt required mental gymnastics because so many songs sound so dated NOW

 

I meant to go back and add some more context for my pick, but hopefully it speaks for itself well enough.
