It just doesn't appeal to me. It doesn't have the gradual, epic build of 23 or Mixtape, it doesn't have the quiet resolve of My Sundown or You Were Good, and it doesn't have the imagery or storytelling of Pol Roger. I know everyone will probably disagree on all those points though. It doesn't feel like a convincing end to an album for me.

 

Dizzy is one of the best JEW songs.
Constant Headache is one of the only good Joyce songs.

 

well your first two points are accurate and factual, but i don't think the song is worse off for that. i do disagree with your last two points though, the imagery is fantastic and it's the perfect way to cap the album.

you could make a case for "pol roger" being the best jimmy song of all time.

 

Yeah, I think there's a case for that though it's not my personal favorite. It does wrap up the album impeccably.

 

the chorus (especially the second and third time through) make me smile and cry every time. so good.

 

Constant Nothing is dope cuz it kinda has blastbeats

Not sure how unpopular it is here, but Johnny Cash's best work is his last works. The stuff he did with American and The Heartbreakers is by far my favorite Cash.

 

I think that's generally the consensus no?

 

his Rick Rubin stuff is amazing but I'm not sure I'd say it's better than his early stuff, although I guess Hurt has to be his best performance

 

Not the people I talk to. Staunch early Cash fans (which is great too, I just think the later work is better.) They're all kinda older too, so maybe that has something to do with it.

 

I really like him singing that song, especially at the end of his life, but never considered it one of his best. Obviously, totally subjective.

There's maybe four or five songs that do that to me after years and years of listening to them.

 

Great record. Probably my favorite outside of everything American.
