  1. rewatched Bones and All and, yeah, I made the right call in deciding not to show this to my friends, they wouldn't have handled it well haha. it's not as gory as, like, your typical zombie movie, but that's the thing, these aren't zombies, they're just people, who eat other people. my friends would've been way too grossed out. but idk, i love Raw, and I love this. anyway, Taylor and Tim are great. Mark Rylance as well. (Anna Cobb has a pretty small role, but I didn't realize until just now that she was the star of We're All Going to the World's Fair; I really hope she gets more opportunities.) I haven't seen Queer yet, but this, CMBYN, and Challengers are so wildly different from one another, yet so distinctly Luca in a way that's hard to describe. i was afraid upon rewatch knowing what will happen beforehand that this would lose a bit of its edge, but the scenes that were initially shocking or disturbing didn't lose any bit of their tension. it's interesting, what's most terrifying about the movie isn't the bloody bits, but the acting from Mark Rylance and Michael Stuhlbarg that make their scenes so creepy and unnerving. at its core, though, this is a love story, a coming of age story. Taylor and Tim perfectly capture the essence of two young lovers coming to terms with the terrible things they have to do to survive while also trying to justify their place in the world. there's a lot of ugliness in this film, but also a lot of beauty. the score by Reznor/Ross is tense when it needs to be, but it's mostly quiet and never in your face like a lot of other films would rely on. this is such a strange and oddly charming little YA romance that really stayed with me for a long time when I first watched it. one of my favorites from 2022, and one that i think is rather underrated.

Still haven’t seen Bones and All but after watching Challengers I want to see all of Luca’s that I haven’t seen

  3. I think the monologues in Nightbitch hurt it unfortunately, Amy Adams is great and it:a occasionally fun and interesting but ultimately about as subtle as you'd expect a story about a woman (maybe?) turning into a dog as a metaphor for motherhood to be.

Low-key loved Y2K though, I think the disappointment is pretty overblown considering how dumb and fun it is. Exactly what it was marketed as, but even better.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

10 Cloverfield Lane is an underrated banger we should talk about more. a lot more movies should have Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman together tbh

The book overstays its welcome by maybe 50 pages or so, but it's absolutely worth reading if you even remotely enjoyed the movie.

Still wanna rewatch that, heated seats and being high made me fall asleep. Or maybe it was the second act, I can’t decide.

  11. Rewatched First Omen. Really just a perfectly executed religious horror. Nell's performance is great. The practical effects are great. And really the entire film just feels so eerie and haunting. it's cool to see that so many of my top favorite films this year were directed by women

  14. With Nosferatu out, it seems like a good time to start collecting lists to be tallied for Chorus.fm's Top 10 Horror Films of 2024. Each list will be weighted with 10 points going to your first place title and one point going to you 10th. Additionally, you may list up to three honorable mentions that will receive one point each, but they will only be tallied with other honorable mentions - those points won't count towards films that place in the top 10 list. Tie-breakers will be made by number of lists a film appears on. Let's get lists posted in this thread by January 5th at noon EST - then I can tally and post the results :)

Have fun putting your lists together!

I Saw the TV Glow is the only 2024 horror I saw this year that I truly loved.

If I had to choose some others I liked, it would be Red Rooms and Abigail, which while not “great,” was a total blast.

Seeing Nosferatu on Wednesday, and I still want to watch The Substance, Longlegs, and Smile 2.

Edit: forgot about In A Violent Nature! I did really like that one too.

I won't be seeing Nosferatu until the 4th so I might as well wait until then.

  21. i haven't seen Nosferatu yet but i posted this last month and i've only seen Heretic since then which doesn't break into the top 10

i'm a little concerned the gothic horror vampire movie is gonna bump the lesbian bodybuilder romance out of the list.

  25. Gotta see Nosferatu this week, I’d submit a list now but I feel like it’ll at the very least push out my current #10, which is Heretic
