Dude is literally incapable of picking people who are normal and/or don't have skeletons in their closet

ehh, I'm not so sure... if you believe that story about what happened then okay, it's tragic and traumatic for her and I feel bad for her, even though it is incredibly stupid to leave a loaded gun lying around and whoever did that is directly responsible for the guy's death - that story screams 'family can afford really good lawyers' though

 

Maybe I’m missing something? She knocked over a loaded gun and it killed her father? How is that her fault, her dad is the one who left the gun there and that sounds traumatic and awful for her. That kind of gun accident happens all the time in this dumb country. Unless you’re saying she murdered her father and got off in which case oh yeah that’s one hell of a skeleton

 

I do agree that if that official story is what happened then it is horrible and tragic and traumatic for her and she was not at fault and whoever stored the gun that way is totally responsible. I think the story sounds incredibly suspicious though and it reads to me like the type of thing that would be investigated differently by the police if the family were not as wealthy and influential. That reads to me like the family had money and got the best lawyers and crisis management / PR people and the police investigated as well as the police do in those situations.

counter-point: America's last conventional war against someone resembling a near-peer was with China in the early 1950's and they kicked our ass. We have been fighting against farmers and third rate armies ever since. America's recent combat experience this guy is hyping up is fighting an entirely different type of war, meanwhile China has been investing in cyber warfare, missiles, and drones for the past decade preparing for actual 21st century conventional warfare, while we are just now trying to pivot from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.

A quote from Ukrainian soldier I read not too long ago comes to mind: " All these American veteran guys came in as volunteers at the start of war. They thought it was going to be like Iraq and Afghanistan. As soon as they experienced what being on the receiving end of artillery felt like most of them got out of here as soon as they could"
