I know he grew up a Red Sox fan or whatever, but I just cannot imagine he would PREFER playing for them over the Yankees (or even the Mets) given the current state of all the teams considered

 

Just go to the Dodgers since the Sox will trade you there anyway in a few years when they get scared about the money again.

They have tons of talent in the minors and are reportedly going to start spending money again at the MLB level.

Like you said they are pretty close to being a contending team. If they sign Soto and get two top/good SPers they are a playoff team and that’s even before some of their top prospects take over.
