I’m about to say something contradictory but it’s a hypothetical: if I was one of the most evil men in the world I would hope I had raised my children right and that they would hate my guts and celebrate my death

I mean honestly fuck his wife

I feel a little bit bad for his kids possibly, depending on their ages, but no moreso than any other kids who are robbed of their parents for a whole slew of reasons, many of which this dude actively caused and made money off of

It’s just weak as fuck to invoke them at all in my opinion but I am admittedly as radical as it gets when it comes to this shit. Absolutely no remorse for any of the ghouls that have orchestrated the death and destruction that the American healthcare industry has wrought

I have watched good people die alone on the street because they couldn’t get into a treatment center due to lack of insurance coverage. Probably would’ve been my story too if my parents hadn’t bailed me out and paid out of pocket not once not twice but three separate times. I’ve been asked to leave treatment prematurely due to insurance coverage running out a good few times as well. And there’s no warning they just tell you one day your insurance isn’t covering you anymore cough up the cash or you’re going home. One time I didn’t really have anywhere to go so it should be no surprise I was just back to ripping and running in a week. I’ve seen this same thing happen to people who later turned up dead. And that’s just my experience with the substance abuse treatment side of things, the horror stories get even worse when you start dealing with even more complicated diseases and ailments. There is no sympathy in my heart for these people

  9. wow guys just because he's the sovereign of our nation by divine mandate and used that power to commit social murder, you think he deserves to be executed?

I was in a meeting working as a nurse at a residential substance use treatment facility where an executive actually said in front of everyone that their ideal patient would be someone who admits and then leaves right away because the company gets to bill their insurance for a certain minimum number of days and they wouldn't need to spend any more money on them after they leave

In February I had a really bad mental breakdown and ran away from home trying to [redacted] and when my mom found me and called the hotel I was at and talked to me she said I need you to please find a treatment center to at least detox tomorrow while you’re at the airport. I spent 4 hours in the middle of Ohare (where my layover was) begging and pleading with treatment centers to take me and my insurance was denied or required an out of pocket sum of over 5 grand just to get in the door at every single place I called. I almost got back on a plane to where I was to finish the job. Thankfully my old outpatient director found me a tiny little place in Illinois to detox at for up to two weeks for under 3.5k and it probably saved my life but this was after hours of intake interviews over the phone only to be told I was essentially out of luck

Oh I know because I’ve done that before and the treatment center didn’t really fucking care

obviously I left after this and found a new job. I had been putting the pieces together myself for while by then, but hearing it out loud like that was crazy. another nurse who was there and the admissions coordinator (who herself is in recovery) left as well

I went to the same treatment center three times within 7ish months and the staff had completely turned over every time I went

I was a fool, because I remember thinking when I went to work there that yeah businesses will obviously try to make money but at least this one is trying to help people at the same time

another time I was in the psych ward for a different [redacted] attempt and after two days they sent me on my way when I was stabilized on suboxone. TWO DAYS. I don’t think I need to tell you what I did when I got out and while they never said it directly I know it was because of insurance

One of my go-to examples I tell my Euro colleagues of how insane the US system is, is that people will turn down offers for ambulances, solely on the fact that they know they can’t afford it.

Yeah my girlfriend gets questions all the time - “how much is this pill you’re giving me?” , “how much will the meals cost?” Etc

I guess my hope is that, at the very least, more people will take away from this an understanding that attempting to make people’s wellbeing into a profit driven system is morally and ethically fucked at a foundational level

(and then they’ll apply that same logic to things like housing and prisons and etc etc)

Part of my medical debt is from two ambulance rides one of which was between hospitals I had no say in and one of which was to a hospital three blocks from my apartment but I was so sick I couldn’t walk

Actually a third ambulance ride might be in there from when I had an asthma attack at treatment and the doctor had forgotten to send in my script for an inhaler but I think maybe the treatment center ate that cost
