Having a mass public response being happy about a health insurance ceo being murdered is a good thing. No it doesn’t change the system that’s causing all the harm but it shows the public consciousness is so angry that it celebrates the murder of someone doing a legal job that is contributing to massive amounts of harm. It’s important for those in power and those in those companies to see that!
and anyone handwringing over an evil piece of shit getting some of what he deserves but shows nuance about children being murdered and maimed by the tens of thousands can get fucked (Rupar)

I definitely get the feeling - I’m also agnostic on what if anything this “accomplishes.” I think the positives I see are that a whole lot of people are noticing that complete hatred and contempt for the people who make their lives worse is widespread across different demographics and political ideologies, which has the potential to galvanize into something real if the right people try to organize around that feeling. And from there, you can begin to take the steps that will accomplish the changes needed to arrive at a more humane system.

But more to the point, I think of this as a fact of nature: if you profit on making people’s lives worse, more miserable, and allowing thousands upon thousands to die… why shouldn’t someone who does that expect violence in return? I used the phrase “natural order” yesterday because this really feels like a simple matter of consequences (assuming this wasn’t over some personal vendetta, which is another reason I’m not too excited about it just yet).

My preference would be that no one has to get killed, but that’s predicated on those people also not presiding over a monstrous system that itself kills millions. If you decide to preside over that system because it makes you rich, then I’m sorry but you get what you’re going to get.

I'm not going to celebrate the death of an individual person connected with an insidious organization because he's one individual with a family and kids, and I can't imagine my loved ones going through something similar if I were to have an untimely demise like getting assassinated on a New York City street.

I'm sure as hell going to feel some sort of cathartic feelings from this because every interaction I've ever had with the American healthcare system has lead me to have the sort of anger that probably lead to this in my id. Plus the memes are pretty great.

Unless they've publicly denounced him, I don't gaf about what his wife and kids are feeling. They've been benefactors of his horrific career and at minimum have enabled it

Think about how traumatized I've been by covid and climate change etc while the people responsible feel nothing

I mean he was directly responsible for people becoming unhoused

I wasn’t gonna say it but the chances this guy was father of the year are slim to none if we’re being completely honest with ourselves

Dude is a POS, but I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying his kids enabled him in his professional career.

Empathy isn’t a disease, it’s not that hard to imagine a child losing their parent in this manner will be fucked up for awhile.

these people see patients as numbers, statistical aberrations, something to be gouged for profits not brought back to health. I think it’s important the remaining health care executives see what the world really thinks of them and their business. I have no concern whatsoever for his family or friends, I have concern for myself and the people I love who are one relapsing disease away from bankruptcy (or in one of my friends cases already having declared bankruptcy after spending her 20s in and out of chemo treatments) after already having been through the wringer that is the American health insurance industry

Been watching Frieren again. I really like the arc where she kills the demon because demons are irredeemable and will lie and wear human emotion and make excuses to be in a position where exact further harm for their benefit. Really weird youtube video trended last week about how this bad to teach that some people are irredeemable and deserving of violence.

    Wait, wrong thread!

why should the fact that he got married and fathered children at some point excuse him from being guilty of any of the things he committed...?

I am married and I have two kids - I don't expect either of these facts to shield me from guilt or consequence for anything I have done or may do in the future

that dumb defense also sorta vaguely implies that if the dude was single or if he and his wife had no children then he kinda deserves what he got a little more, when those points are completely irrelevant and moreover act as a smokescreen for the pearl-clutchers to hide behind and use to distract the masses from any of the real issues that lead us to this place
