yup, that's exactly it (although it'd probably be framed as "struggling with same sex attraction"). i believe in her book she mentioned she had simultaneously dealt with heavy depression and other things, and then her grandma took her to church to help her through it and she had a conversion experience and somehow realized she needed to break up with her girlfriend.

as someone who studies religious organizations, i can recognize the good that can come out of organized religion and how networks of aid, resources, and fellowship can help people dealing with depression, self-harm, substance abuse, etc. (although it's absolutely not a substitute for professional help). but it's sad seeing that that help usually comes wrapped up in dogma. one way a church will draw people in is by framing someone's problems as issues only religious dedication and participation will solve, so foregoing some of those beliefs might result in jeopardizing that assistance and community.

my hope is that Lacey has walked back some of those beliefs, because they're all over that first album, and while people can recontextualize those lyrics to mean something else (and whether it was Lacey's intention or not), those songs still act as a mouthpiece for that theology, which makes it difficult to stomach.

totally get it. truly sorry you’ve had to deal with that. honestly yeah i never forgive and never forget when it comes to homophobic rhetoric, lol. so this is a no for me, but it did rock back in the day. one of the only bands marketed as “paramore-adjacent” that really hit for me.

Yeah my beggars is sitting at home, and I’ll have to do the same. I had a gut feeling that this was going to happen due to the variant being one that was used previously… but thought based on the image and even the fact that they were charging so much that it would somehow be legit

Yeah, I mean, lost in this whole thing is that $50 all in for a single LP is a fucking crime. Even more so now that we know it included absolutely nothing special or unique (like b-sides or the OG cover).

Right?!? I knew the original cover fell through for licensing reasons so I naively thought that maybe the extra cost was to cover that in some way… nope lol

Just listened to the advances of Silverstein and LS Dunes today. First impressions of both were pretty positive, but I’m enjoying the Silverstein record more so far.

Don’t know the band buts that’s really cool. Glad you were able to make it to the final shows. Love seeing stuff like this when people are so passionate.

That’s the guy from Saosin right? Didn’t know he had a different band so I’ll have to check them out as I love his voice. Saw a few emails announcing it actually but didn’t know the band name.

That Cove Reber thing got me thinking - growing up I used to want to know everything about bands and band members, spend ages looking through the CD notes etc and watching / reading interviews. Nowadays some of my ‘favourite’ bands - Comeback Kid, Menzingers etc etc I could barely name a band member and wouldn’t know if they walked past me on the street! Random thought over.

You’re not alone - I was the same way. I think it’s another reason why we have a nostalgic connection to some of those bands and artists due to the research we put into them. Haha.

That’s a really good point actually - for me, bands like New Found Glory. Grew up with them, read all about the band, met them many times. Only natural you have that connection as you say! Never thought of it that way!
