Landman is the first Sheridan show I’ve watched. It’s not great or even good. The women are written poor af.

but I somehow kept letting it play because Billy Bob is fun to watch.

I'd rank it at the bottom of all the Sheridan shows too. Like you, the main reason in watching now is Billy Bob is great in it.

There's much better shows you could've picked as your entry to the Sheridan-verse!

I'd say the podcast the show is based off of, Boomtown, is a more interesting listen than watching the show Landman. Billy Bob is the only really interesting/fun thing about the show. Plot doesn't seem to be heading in any particular direction, other than showing us dramatized "oil patch" life. Its appealing to a big demographic of people though, so it'll be another huge hit for Paramount+

Yeah that's the vibe I got...."life in the oil patch". No real plot to drive the story forward but good god is Billy Bob fun to watch.

Yeah Billy Bob's sheer screen presence is carrying the show. I would say this the most "Yellowstone" out of the most recent stuff he has done honestly. This kinda feels like it is trying to be Yellowstone but with oilmen instead of ranchers. The women in Yellowstone were not written great either.

My ranking of the Sheridan-Verse shows so far but it might change at somepoint

    1. Tulsa King
    2. Lioness
    3. Mayor of Kingstown
    4.1883
    5. Yellowstone (depending how this season sticks the landing.. the ranking might change)
    6. Bass Reeves

At the moment waiting on how the first season of Landman and the second and final season of 1923 sticks the landing.

I don't have much interest in most of his shows tbh. this one just seemed worth at least taking a look at i guess

Never watched the Yellowstone spinoffs and didn’t finish lioness or bass reeves. Watched like 2 episodes of each.

Aw. Well dunno if you like period pieces but 1883 and 1923 were good but at their core still contain a lot of elements that are the Sheridan style DNA.

Which movies? While he doesn't always nail it with his messaging or what have you, if you've seen Wind River you know how much he likes representation especially regarding Native Americans and the two shows I mentioned earlier (1883 and 1923) he handles that aspect really well. Lawman: Bass Reeves is another period piece about the first Black U.S. Marshall too.

As far as Sicario goes...I really don't think anything except lioness maybe but you already tried that. Mayor of Kingstown has a little more grittiness tho.

Hell or High Water, I really don't think there's anything comparable yet. That movie has it all especially with its themes and story and I don't think we have anything exactly like it yet.

Yeahhhh unfortunately I don't think we have a show of that quality yet. I had really hoped and I thought Landman might be similar but it's definitely not haha.

I did hear a couple years back that they're making a TV show adaptation and I am.......doubtful that it'll be as good as the movie.

There’s a meme going around Facebook about a landman scene “exposing” green energy as a scam. I haven’t seen the show but do they really do stupid shit like that? And I worked on a fracking rig, these people are not worth making a show about.

yeah that scene was what this post i made was referring to. Sheridan would have scenes similar to that in Yellowstone too, especially in the later seasons during the governor of Montanta arc. He gets like Bizarro conservative Aaron Sorkin sometimes.
In the scene it's more framed like "wind energy isn't really clean, it uses more oil to make and maintain than it'll ever make up for. The oil companies really do want to find an actual alternative because the oil supply is going to run out eventually, but they're probably not going to find a real replacement for oil before it runs out and that should terrify people. If the oil companies thought wind turbines were the future they would already be everywhere"

Some but not all wind turbines need oil as lubrication, but it doesn’t even come close to what is saved by not burning oil or gas or coal for the same energy output. The only thing dumber than saying wind uses more oil than it makes up for is believing it but we are in the dumbest country with the dumbest people

It’s like the people that say we shouldn’t recycle because it uses more energy than just throwing it away. While there are certainly problems with recycling, it’s largely better things are reused in some kind of way than ending up in a landfill.

I remember there was a very conservative Sorkin-ey scene in Yellowstone when John Dutton was governor of Montana he kills the state's solar programs because he says solar farms are ecologically bad for the natural sagegrass or some shit.

but then there was an episode of Yellowstone where he backs up the native american tribe when they do a Standing Rock like protest of a pipeline being built on their land.

    Sheridan's politics are weird.
