For the future of Ukraine’s security and sovereignty, all diplomacy talks need to include Ukraine joining NATO. It’s the only way to ensure there isn’t a “special military operation” from Russia years from now. I hope there’s no one that wants this to be repeated.

If I could just forget it

I doubt they would ever agree to it. Part (most) of their reasoning for the invasion was to create a buffer between them and NATO states. Cementing another NATO state right next door is counter to that.

Meanwhile Finland’s entire east coast borders Russia and there was no invasion. Russia simply wants Ukraine. Ukrainian sovereignty was never an idea that Russia liked.

I think its a complete black box in terms of how any negotiations might go; in public obviously most of Trump's crew has been against helping Ukraine, but he has hired some pro-Ukraine people as well. And we know Trump likes to act like the Alpha dog, so that could influence how Trump responds to Putin, whether he threatens to unleash western weapons into Ukraine, or fully forces Zelensky to accept whatever Putin demands. Really have no clue how this will go.

it is a sad state of affairs and a scathing indictment of the ineptitude of Joe Biden that I am actually a tiny bit hopeful that trump can possibly work something out here

Putin Is Throwing Human Waves at Ukraine but Can’t Do It Forever

Putin Is Throwing Human Waves at Ukraine but Can’t Do It Forever

“An even more sinister aspect of Russia’s disregard of the value of life is the increasingly open framing of the war as a national eugenics project. “Spare people” with low “social value” is how Russian parliamentarian Aleksandr Borodai described his compatriots sent as cannon fodder to Ukraine in a leaked tape, the authenticity of which he later confirmed. Expendable manpower, he explained, can be thrown at Ukraine’s “bravest [and] boldest,” and “exhaust the enemy to the maximum.” Borodai isn’t just anybody: He’s a political consultant from Moscow who declared himself prime minister of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic in Ukraine in 2014, and he’s now a member of the Russian parliament for the ruling United Russia party. Coming from someone this prominent, it is essentially a confirmation of how Russia is running the war.”
