Somehow my brother gets to skip Christmas Day for work and doesn’t get the guilt trip, but me skipping it because I have a newborn is so confusing despite it ALWAYS being the plan.

It truly is just insane to me how often something happens that makes my parents unhappy, and it’s on me to fix it at the expense of my families plans.

It wasn’t even “hey since it’s just us, can we come see you at your place.” It was “hey since it’s just gonna be us, are you sure you don’t wanna pack up two kids and two complete nurseries and travel an hour each way to visit for all of two hours in a house where there was a huge germ ridden party the night before?”

Sorry to vent but Jesus Christ.

I had a situation for Thanksgiving break where my grandma was like "so when do I get to have the kids over here" and I was like I only get one fucking week with how this visitation schedule has gone lately so why don't you just come here and see them for one day and let us actually have time to ourselves

 

I do not want to join a group chat but I do feel bad that I was never invited

 

I am incredibly fortunate that my in-laws had grandkids from my wife's brother first and figured a lot of these things out...and that my kid is the only one my parents have, so they'll bend over backwards to make things work. But yeah, we made them come down to us for Thanksgiving/XMas because their house was such a hoarders den that we couldnt even stay overnight until just recently.

Even my in-laws place is poorly baby-proofed (which is crazy, cause they watch my nieces/nephews all the time), and its SOOOO stressful being there vs at home where I know my child isnt going to lick an ungrounded light socket or fall into a thick ass brick fireplace.

 

It’s just irritating. “Let us get past the newborn, unvaccinated stage and we’ll get back to Christmas next year” isnt that big an ask to me
