I enjoyed this, not as much as the first. didn't have the same emotional heft that the first did. also Paul Mescal didn't work for me in this role. Feel he's better suited to quite more personal films.

I think part of it is that he's trying to pump out as many movies as he can now, considering his age

 

Like Clint Eastwood did before he retired, he made many movies as possible, I read he does minimum 2 takes and goes to the next scene and works fast

 

Dude is like 104 let him make his movies however he wants.

 

this was fun but parts of it were incredibly goofy lol

I wanted to like this so much more than I ended up liking it. It looked really, really cheap. And for a 2.5 hour movie, it needed way more fleshing out for any of the emotional beats to ring true.

 

The sequel should focus on the emperor’s monkey and what he’s planning to do about tariffs.

The screen in the shoddy cinema I went to in the Philippines was sooooo dark. GoT S8 dark. But hey, two tickets, two large pops, and a bucket of popcorn is 15 US so…

I guess after Paul, Pedro, and Denzel’s quotes they didn’t have any budget left over for shark or monkey CGI lol

 

Wait, are we... really wanting CGI over practical effects now? Is that what's happening here?

But to directly answer your question, no of course not. Practical effects are great, which is why it’s even more important when you’re using CGI in two of your key battle scenes to make it look semi-believable.
