I started Monstrilio, which is about:

Hoping to read it quickly in case I Believe in Mr. Bones (Max Booth III) drops this month.

Been reading Shōgun recently and I’m sort of bored, roughly 250 pages in. It’s not bad, just sort of plodding along. No I haven’t seen the show yet. Considering I have about 1000 pages left, I’m thinking this is a bad sign unless it really picks up—because so far it’s been pretty repetitive in terms of plot beats.

I know you posted this a while back, but exactly I feel with this author. Sometimes the writing style just isn’t for me. I’m often sorta confused what’s happening. My Heart is a Chainsaw is my favorite I’ve read of his, but still agree

I had to stop reading it tonight after getting to the part of Omaira, and finding out it was based on a true event. What a horrifying anecdote

Just finished Salem’s Lot. That rocked. I’ve been 1/2 way through It for a decade now, so I’m either going to finish that or jump into Pet Sematary

been getting the urge to redo The Dark Tower recently and I just know I'll wind up doing all the short stories and linked books and stuff too

Yupppp. And it’s referenced a few times throughout. Horrified/upset me every time, especially because I made the sad mistake of looking up the photo.

I just finished Books of Blood 1-3 and man. some quality variation for sure but the best stories were so good. Dread is one of the tensest things I've ever read and then Human Remains has me tearing up after midnight, amazing stuff

I'm now at page 350 or so and it's picked up a bit

  13. I met Grady Hendrix at Comic Con yesterday and he signed my Paperbacks From Hell copy. He was as cool as I expected him to be. And then he asked what other authors I like. When I mentioned Stephen Graham Jones, he said “Stephen makes me feel bad about myself because when I think I’m good, I talk to Stephen and I realize how much fucking better he is… and I can’t hate him because he’s the nicest guy.” :crylaugh:

finished it! really loved it, and some incredibly startling imagery that's going to stick with me for a long long time. and adored the cultural and political backdrop of the Argentine coup de tat of 1979, a perspective I was not familiar with at all. Only criticism is that it meandered a tiny bit towards 2/3s of the way through, but it all had a purpose and tied together at the end (even if it felt like it could have used another 50 pages or so).

Finished Lolita after a couple months. For a person who hasn’t been an avid reader his whole life, that was some heavy lifting but so stoked to make it through that.

Really really liked Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar. And he namedrops Jane Doe and many other bands several times so this site should like it by default lol
