Got my first win in Dead Cells after my third attempt at Hand of The King. Followed it up with another win right after which means it’s probably time to step up the difficulty or at least try a more challenging path. At the moment, I prefer Brutality builds especially ones spec’d around bleed.

 

Is the first game any good? Have that on console

 

Never played it

 

That Steam sale really is great. Just picked up Metal Slug 1-3, Black Mesa, RDR2, Layers of Fear, Darkest Dungeon, To the Moon, Hylics, and Heaven Will Be Mine.

I try to finish a game before I buy a new one, unless I really don’t like it.

 

I want my Steam Library to either be a curated historical record or a horrible warning to future generations. Or both.

 

Yeah my goal is just to build a curated library that for now is for my own enjoyment but I would one day like to pass on whether that’s to my nephew or kids of my own one day. It’s also nice to just have options when deciding what to play. I haven’t had much choice paralysis this year despite my very large backlog

 

I recently went through and actually grouped all my games into different folders which was really fun and now I have a little retrospective of everything I played on steam this year

 

How did you group yours?

I'm trying to do a mix of publishers/developers and genres but the latter is especially vexing, because it's leading me to some philosophical questions, like what is an RPG anyway?

 

RPG can be broken down further to character driven or blank slate RPG where you either play a set protagonist (Witcher 3, final fantasy), or a character you shape throughout the course of the game (bg3, Skyrim)

 

An interesting way of breaking it down. I'm trying by J and C but then there are weird ones like West Of Loathing that don't fall into either.

 

there’s a ton of RPGs that wouldn’t fall into either since CRPGs and JRPGs are both very specific sub genres. western RPGs like the Witcher and Skyrim and dragon age (post-origins) are their own thing

 

haha my version of that was “what exactly is a boomer shooter and how wide can I make that category?”

I haven’t gone SUPER crazy with it yet and I only have about 50 ish things in my library right now. But so far I have folders for Star Wars, Boomer Shooters, Half Life, Fallout, and maybe a few others. More by topic/universe than by genre I guess. But that leaves a lot of one-offs that don’t really fit anywhere - I’ve got a bunch that are just stuck uncategorized at the moment

And then the two I actually use the most are one of my backlog and one for everything I played this year

 

I’m split pretty evenly between console and PC, fwiw. Like I JUST got a decent gaming PC like a year ago. So there are a TON of things I’ve also played this year that I don’t have record of on steam.
