I’m digging this Sam Barber a lot but I’m only 6 songs out of 28!!! into it. Not sure I need 28 songs of this but we’ll see haha.

I legit just texted my friend "why is this album 28 songs long" despite liking the first nine!

I thought the 28 number was a joke until I found this on Amazon Music, but I'm gonna give it a listen on my drive home from work

I hate that trend of throwing everything you've recorded onto an album for a debut. I'm sure it has something to do with pleasing the algorithm, but it feels lazy. American Heartbreak is another example... it's a great collection of songs, but why is it 34 songs and 2+ hours??

Yeah I really like a number of the songs but there’s definitely some filler and songs that blend in together. Could have easily been an ~18 song album, which would still be a lot of songs.

Started out really liking that Sam Barber album, then started feeling like he was just ripping off Zach Bryan, then hit track 12 and was pretty burned out on it already because every song sounded the same. I'll go back to it later, but man, a lot of artists need a lot of help shaping their albums into actual albums. This is too many songs for someone who doesn't change up the approach much at all.

It just feels like such a blatant attempt to copy the Zach Bryan playbook, but the songs just aren’t as good. It took me a little while to get into American Heartbreak too, though, so I probably owe the is one a few more chances.

    phenomenal album

really the only song I didn't care for was this version of Trudy, but I don't really like any version of that song, so it's more of me problem

Im right there with ya. I think he could have just left that one out, but I’ll take whatever I can get after 14 years. It’s a slow burn of an album, but in the best way.

Funny enough, Trudy was the one I immediately added to my country playlist. Wasn't aware there are other versions out there.
