To be honest though, I’m more of a lake vacation guy to a beach vacation guy. But my wife likes the beaches.

this isn't a fight I was just stating a fact that Hawaii is better than any of the mainland US beaches and that spiff is gonna be impressed

glad JR agrees that Hawaii is one of the best in the world even though it is very impractical to actually go to haha, we don't disagree on any of that

 

lakes and pools are also not better than beaches, sorry

maybe don't be a coward about the airplane-crash-miniscule chance of getting bitten by a shark

 

also I love all swimming / beaches and I'm all for going to the OBX. An "okay" beach still satisfies "beach". Delaware beaches are nowhere near as cool as the ones in Florida I'm used to (and Ocean City is that but CROWDED), but I still had the best time ever going there for a birthday trip with my partner. Even if you're not near the coast you can feel the ocean air and people are just more relaxed and there's always nice markets and shops nearby etc its just a vibe.

I looked up Lake Como though, and if lakes were all elite like that yeah maybe I'd like the lake angle more haha. When i think of lakes I often think of mud / sharp rocks, either very cold or unsettlingly warm water, and no waves (waves make swimming way more fun imo). I also think of the possibility of flesh eating bacteria which actually is a very real risk and not a 0.00001% freak accident.

Some lakes are better for swimming than others, in MD Loch Raven is aight to swim in, I did love swimming in Lake Rabun in GA. I bet I'd like Sleeping Bear Dunes park in Michigan. To me lakes are like creeks/rivers and are more "nature explore" than "swim" vibes, I do love me some kayaking / canoeing.

Usually if I can't go to a beach I like waterfalls and I like springs the most. Pools are only good if the person / people you're at the pool with are fun, I'd love a pool of my own for relaxation one day but a lot of entertainment would be centered around that area, it would also be a space for bonfires and cornhole and watching sports and would have a bar and a grill and cool lights etc
