Because of something Felix brought up on Chapo I can't believe I am just now learning the background of Tulsi Gabbard that she grew up in basically a cult that was a conservative far right offshoot of Hare Khrishnas that preaches against homosexuality and Islam.

Her dad is a state senator in Hawaii who also has a history of party switching based on his own political goals.

Yeah I have listened to him when he did an interview with Bernie and few others and I always come to this conclusion that good lord the education system has completely failed him. Then I found out he is from country ass Louisiana and it made perfect sense.

Sometimes I wonder how much of it is schtick and how much of it is real though because I feel like he plays into it.

 

I think democrats should continue to be vocal about how much disdain they have for leftists and their ideals and worldview, I think it’s going to work out spectacularly for them :)

 

Like I said I can’t believe he’s made it to the age of 44 without accidentally burning his house down or walking into traffic without looking both ways

 

I’ve been saying this for a year

 

I was on the tail end of this in the mid 90s and there were summer/weekend days of hanging outside with friends with no supervision but year for decades parents let their kids roam free (at least here in the suburbs). But back then we didn't have a list of registered sex offenders living in our neighborhood at our digital disposal so parents were clueless if they were living near a predator. People romanticize their childhood but it's usually from the lucky ones who never endured a traumatic experience.

i'm kinda desperate. is it a faux paus to reach out to a company you were in a final interview for, one of the final 2 candidates, but never heard from about the status of the position?

 

Depends on how long, but I lean on no. If you haven't gotten an answer yet it'd be understandable and if they don't respond that tells you everything you need to know.

I was in a similar boat where I got through three rounds with a company and hadn't heard in a few days when the recruiter had been on top of it and I made them tell me I wasn't moving forward.

 

No, especially if they gave you a rough timeline and you're following up around or outside of that timeline. I mean obviously if you're sitting in the car 5 minutes post interview maybe wait a minute :)

You can also do it sneakily and send a thank you email for the interview and just throw something in there about hoping to hear back. That way it's not 'please give me the good news I need' just a 'thank you for everybody's time, looking forward to what's next' type of thing.

 

its been about two months, but also they told me it could take right away to several months to confirm depending on what the higher ups wanted. apparently they opened this position to interviews, did the rounds of interviews but were ultimately unsatisfied with the candidates then opened the position again.

 

I think as a kid I could roam a little bit it always had parameters like I could only go so far or like don't go past X but my early teens are what blows my mind for what I got away with. I got a moped at like the earliest you could have one in my state so I think that was like 14/15 and I would drive all over the fucking county in that thing and I don't think I had a cell phone yet. That summer after I got it was just wild, I remember setting up going to over to girls houses when their parents were at work via AIM and then driving like over a half hour on that thing just to get to their house.

I remember having to like print MapQuest directions out and keeping them under my seat just so I didn't get lost when going to a house for the first time.
