New song is great by late Coheed standards, but I'm worried production may hold this record back even with more great songs. Def has that same very digital, thin sounding mix as Vax2, but maybe even more extreme this time?

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

It’s so hard to believe this is already album 11. Wild. My favorite band for sure, and I’m so glad they still keep coming back and blowing me away

I agree with the production. I can overlook it because I dig the song, but yea, I wish they would go away from this producer

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

On my fifth listen and I have the biggest smile on my face. The lead guitar climbs are so classical-influenced and the bridge gooooooes. This song is going to be massive live.

These are both a lot of fun. Vaxis II connected with me more than anything else they've put out in a long time, so I'm excited for the follow up.

Cervini's production isn't my favorite. Drums feel slightly overcompressed, it's not my favorite digital sounding guitar tone, but it's fine.

What I DO love though is it seems like him and Claudio really work well together. This streamlined, in your face Coheed that still retains the Coheed DNA seems to have really breathed new life into them at this stage in their career, so if working with Zakk is what they need to do to keep things moving along, I'm cool with it.

Also, a plug: my most listened to band since 2020 is Caligula's Horse. They put out an album this year called Charcoal Grace that I think Coheed fans would like. Starts with a big 10-minute-long opener, has some catchy shorter tracks, a middle of the album song suite, and an epic closer. Pretty shreddy progmetal with minimal harsh vocals and a pretty unique and talented singer.

If you’d have told me in 2004 that 20 years later we’d still be getting bigger and better music from both - I didn’t think either band would even be around 20 years later

I love it at 14 songs, 57 minutes. I love each song on Vaxis I, but it was too long. This feels similarly paced as Vaxis II just basing off the songs we have so far and the lengths, and I loved the flow of Vaxis II.

This slaps. Starting to skim their discog now.

Not to derail the thread, but I'm quickly getting the vibe I'll dig their instrumentals but the bland/weak vocals may be a sore spot. It's so funny they're Australian too, cause I had the exact same conundrum with Karnivool and Dead Letter Circus (maybe a few others in that scene?) back in the late 00s and early 10s.

Ah man, I love the singer's voice a ton, but it's hard for me to remember what my first impression was. I would recommend The Stormchaser off the newest album for what I think is one of his better vocal performances. If you aren't fully sold after that it might be for you. The instrumentals are wild though. I would probably still love the band without a singer.

There's a lot of progmetal bands where I love the instruments but I really have an adjustment period with the singers. Haken and Leprous were two that I had to get adjusted to recently, but I love them now. To bring it full circle, Coheed was one of the first bands where that happened to me.
