I’ve never understood the artistic appeal to turn animation into live action (not that I’m under any delusions that dreamworks is doing this for artistic reasons). You can get away with so many more fantastical visual elements in animation that enhance the story that you just can’t do with live action in a way without looking corny.

 

Wonder if part of the reason is chasing the crowd who writes off all animated stuff as being for kids and acts like they're above watching it.

The only way to make one of these live-action adaptations work is by having a vision and trying to make a new thing out of the old thing, instead of some one-for-one cosplay fan service.

I remember hoping Mulan would be an interesting one, using nostalgia and elements of the animated film as a vehicle for a cool movie about the old story. But, it ended up sucking in its own ways.
