All this talk of culture in media having a "vibe shift" and pulling back on being woke or being overly critical of Trump, makes me really interested to see the next major awards show. That is going to be one of the first big tests to see if there is truly tone change.

I'm getting confused - is the 'vibe shift' related to the penis size discussion?

  8. imo: the definition or better yet the "vibe" of woke has changed. Where it started as being aware of social injustices, particularly related to racism and inequality, it's now been so perverted by the right to the absurd, I don't see many people associating with it in the same way. Like, even the most left people don't seem to self-identify as "woke" in the way maybe they would have before.

What's the tone change being talked about you've seen?

Related to the vibe shift: I’ve seen so many younger customers come in to my job lately wearing Trump hats that never would have before. I’ve seen maybe 2 hats in the entire 4 years he was president and they were both on old dudes. I live in a really blue area so it feels like they’re comfortable wearing it now that he won the popular vote.

I’m spamming posts right now sorry lol but I just remembered that there was a guy in my city with three signs in his yard for election season - Lauren Boebert (we’re not even in her district) , Trump, and an advertisement for the Reagan movie

I ran into one of those gen z men who went far right the other day. Dude used the f slur twice with no hesitation. It was so jarring as I haven’t heard it said aloud in quite awhile now. Truly bizarre.

Like for example Disney just buried a pro-LGBTQ+ episode of one it's cartoons, with one of the staff members saying "the result of the election" as a direct result. Some celebrities walking back their political statements clearly at the behest of their management. stuff like that. Not to mention the walking back of stuff in news media.

Why I mentioned awards shows is that usually where there is a lot of making fun of trump, speeches and discourse around the need for diversity, ect. Interested to see if that gets walked back or toned down.

  19. Interesting, weird to use the election as an excuse.

The vibe I've felt is more just a malaise, but a general feeling that while for a few years being outspoken politically was more "cool" and my personal feeling is that a lot of people were very scared to say anything about Gaza, for fear of being called antisemitic, or whatever it may be, and once you've swallowed the whistle there, or rationalized a vote even with that happening, it's hard to put that paste back in the bottle and led to people just ... not.

I think the real test will be what we see when he's actually sworn in.

Number one proof of vibe shift people are pointing to is AOC removing pronouns from her bio. Personally, that’s a stretch, and while it’s obvious pockets of the culture are shifting conservative in terms of outwardly expressing support for certain social issues, there’s still a lot of pushback and support for minorities within many sects of the culture as well
