I love when non horror media (especially animation) hits you with a curveball out of nowhere and creeps you out. was just rewatching early Simpsons and this scene is terrifying

 

Finally saw Smile 2 and it was the best bottled water commercial I've ever seen. Seriously one of the most blatant ad placements I've ever seen

I liked it a lot though and Naomi Scott is great. But I'm still struggling over how much the fact that the majority of the plot seems to have taken place in her head detracts from the movie as a whole

 

Yeah I think that aspect ending up being more of a liability than an asset

 

I feel like those movies are basically about mental illness which is still real and dangerous even if it's all in someone's head. It's about the horror one person is going through and those experiences were very real for her.

That's why it works for me anyway.

to add to that, another thing that made it terrifying was like what, she was just on autopilot the entire time? the monster took over for possibly days, and no one noticed?

 

I think you're both right, it's weird and opens a lot of questions but I think it does still work. The Smile demon really cooked.

 

I think my biggest question for the people in the Smile "universe", why is there no attempt to hospitalize the clearly unhinged person. i can sort of excuse a celebrity because people dont care about their mental health and dont step in but for the first movie there's no excuse. only reason it doesnt happen is that then the movie cant work lol

 

My thoughts on some of the Smile 2 discussion:

I get that the whole "it was in Skye's head" can work well for some people. Especially considering how it was revealed. To me, it felt a little cheap? However, I don't feel like it really benefits from pulling the rug out from under the audience by saying "how much of this actually even occurred in the movie's reality?" especially when they toyed with that device in the first one already. FWIW I really enjoyed Smile 2 and I think it truly succeeded as a sequel. Like mentioned above, was Skye just on autopilot in reality for most of the second half? While that is scary to consider, we don't get to see it so it doesn't really matter. IDK, I'd rather Parker Finn abandon this mechanism moving forward and focus more on expanding the universe and lore

 

In other news (not even horror-related) but I am finally gonna check out Anora today and I'm stoked on it
