It’s literally a giant advertisement segment lol the awards don’t matter. Your average self professed gamer could name maybe three GOTY winners in the last decade

 

I would have given GOTY to Kunitsu-Gami but I just bought Tetris Forever and I don't even need to play it to know it's better than Erdtree. Can't beat perfection guys. Pack it up. The debate is over.

Controversial opinion, but I don't really think Tetris is that good. Admittedly, this is partially a kneejerk contrarian thing cause everyone always calls it the best game of all time, but if I was on a plane with nothing to do but play Tetris, I'd just look out the window.

 

Why would I play Tetris on a plane when I can play Ocarina of Time on a plane?

 

I don't agree that it's the best game of all time, but I do think it has a quintessential gameness to it that people can point to when they say things like "easy to learn, difficult to master" or when pointing to a game's addictive qualities.

I absolutely played the shit out of Game Boy Tetris, it's a very fond memory.

Did you grow up with Tetris? I should also ask if you're even a fan of that genre. Either way, if you didn't or don't, you wouldn't understand.

 

Tetris transcends controversy and contrarianism. Tetris is a fixed point in our world. It exists as perfection regardless of what anyone says. Worship at the altar of Tetris and it shall reward you with everlasting inner peace.

Didn't grow up with it, don't really like the genre. And like I said, I wouldn't have made the post if I hadn't been hearing about how amazing Tetris is for the past 20 years. To me it's just a fun little thing that wears out it's welcome after about 5 minutes.

Given the enduring quality of the game, clearly I am 'wrong' about this but still, someone's gotta take Tetris down a peg!

I didn't grow up with Tetris and I still think it's the single best video game experience you can give anyone of any age and watch them have fun.

 

My mom loved Tetris, only game she would ever play on the og gameboy.

I used to play Tetris on my laptop during my classes in college all of the time.
