This was one of the bigger Sundance debuts and is getting a lot of Oscar season buzz so I'd figure I made an early thread. Looking forward to this one a lot.

Written/directed/starring Jesse Eisenberg, also starring Kieran Culkin. Releasing wide in the US on 11/1/24 from Searchlight. Co-produced by Fruit Tree, Emma Stone's production company.

Eisenberg won the screenwriting award for this at Sundance. Reviews from Sundance particularly said Culkin's performance is the standout and might be his career best.

I was friends with Jesse Eisenberg's sister in college - she frequently spoke highly of him.

Did he have more than 1 sister, or the one that was in the pepsi ad?

  17. So good man. An immediately rewatchable classic. A tight 90 minutes like most movies should be and acutely paced between the humor and tenderness.

I love how the gag of the tour guide saying goodbye to David hits so hard that you almost don’t even catch that he calls him by the wrong name

Haha I missed this. What did he call him?

  20. Okay so I could swear he called him Kevin, but the two people I went with didn’t hear it either and now I’m wondering if this was just me hearing the wrong thing lmao

Went to see this last night, was hanging with a friend and after he left I was like “now is a great time to go see a movie” at like 10:30 so I saw a late showing of this. The only reason I bring that up is because the theatre was practically empty and…I really enjoyed that. I think late might movie showings might be my new go to haha.

I really enjoyed it! Kieran’s character is sooooo annoying at times, but he’s also just…unafraid to put himself out there, be himself, and not be afraid of how others are going to react, and that is where you see there is good inside of him, he’s trying to do his best, even if it doesn’t always come out in the best way. The way both Jesse and him play their characters, who are both polar opposites of each other and also similar, is perfect.

This was very good. Reminded me a lot of “Sideways” where not a lot happens but it’s an two-hander acting showcase so who cares. Amazing that Culkin almost didn’t do this.
