  1. I remember hearing this song live for the first time and just feeling absolutely stunned when it finished, I needed a good three minutes. Album version is phenomenal.

CW: yet another fucking post about Overhead, The Albatross

A few days ago the guy who runs the A Cheery Wave record label sent out an email/message via Bandcamp saying they've got an OTA release in the pipeline due in the next few months, which is notable considering their forthcoming album is on a different label. I suppose it could simply be that A Cheery Wave is doing the vinyl, but I wouldn't think such a practice is typical - digital release on one label, and physical/vinyl on another? Maybe it is and this is totally unremarkable, but maybe not and and it's something else entirely. Fuck knows.

Also new music from Din of Celestial Birds is on the way.

  18. Tides From Nebula's album is, no surprise, very good. I love their evolution and especially how they continue to implement electronics in their core sound. They're far from the first post-rock band to do so, but I'm drawn to their approach a lot for some reason! It fleshes out the songs and makes them more dynamic and cinematic as well. Also relieved the singles from the past two years finally have a home.

  22. It was released as a single in 2022 but album context helps it out so much.

Speaking of the tracklist, this feels like as good a time as any to post this screenshot I've had since last year.

Curious to know whether Winter became TILL or if it's an entirely separate track. And I don't love LDV at #4 - it feels much better suited to a spot somewhere in the latter half of the album.

  24. The song was introduced as Winter then retitled, was gonna be the title track for a while!

My only actual music-related complaint with this entire album lays with Hibakusha. The little rap-rock Linkin Park impression bit, especially considering just how much of the song it populates, is kind of a bummer. Aside from the part where they layer it with the vocal chops - a part I love, as it happens - it's so monotone and bereft of melody that it almost boggles the mind. I really love the rest of the song too but this one thing kept it from being potentially extraordinary.

    Easy easy AOTY regardless, though.
