That’s not exactly nothing given the average UK wage is like £35k and it’s a relatively low cost of living compared to somewhere like the US or Canada, but considering the stress, public exposure, and constant abuse from the crowd and a group of protected millionaires, it’s pretty poor.

 

For comparison, an average MLB umpire makes between $120,000 and can make up to $350-400k based on tenure.

 

NFL refs might be closer to what a soccer ref does time commitment wise and they make around $200k

 

I used to ref “professionally” while I was in middle school & high school. I liked it but never had the guts to ref any games for teams older than 15 years due to the pressure. Haha. So I get why people tap out.

Definitely seems like he’s lost a yard. Brighton absolutely abused him at the weekend. I think he’s relied on his recovery pace for so long he’s never really adapted his game so when he loses that yard of pace his game kinda falls apart.

 

Guy has been playing hard minutes at a high intensity in an incredibly demanding position doing a lot of heavy leg work for more than a decade. Surprised he made it this long without shutting down before now.
