It's a bit complicated/convoluted whether and how he can do it. Basically, SCOTUS previously ruled that a 3-day recess was not long enough for recess appointments and it needs to be at least 10 days, and also that House and Senate would need to be in disagreement over whether the Senate could adjourn for at least 10 days before the president can invoke that power.

Of course that ruling was against an Obama recess appointment, so . . .

These cabinet picks are like who's who of people who have always desperately wanted to be seen as cool and edgy, but who no one finds cool or edgy because it's so obvious and cringe how hard they are trying.

 

I don't fault people for saying "I won't vote for this person because they are [implicitly/explicitly] supporting genocide" in this thread. It's not the route I took for a variety of reasons but... I understand it fully and honestly kinda wish I could push some of the other worries I had out of my mind to do that.

I'm more concerned with the people I know IRL who are saying things like "Dems left me no choice but to vote Trump! They were so condescending calling half the country racists and nazis!" Because really, that's just full-force ignorance with a side of latent misogyny. And that's the more positive read of it. The other, more likely scenario is that they kinda liked what the guy was saying and just didn't want to say it aloud.

That said: They aren't wrong about the "condescending" part. Albeit for different reasons.

This is all just so fucked and scary.

I mean Joe Biden was staunchly against integrated bussing in the 70’s, was insanely racist against Jesse Jackson when he ran in the 80’s, treated Anita hill like garbage in the 90s like Joe Biden’s political career is littered with I Don’t Like Non White People so the notion he’s an aw shucks nice guy for the last 50+ years in politics is just a testament to the low bar of the media and politicians in America.
