Yeah we’re under a fire ban down here right now. Finally gonna get some measurable rain today for the first time in like 46 days or something like that

I know we are mostly down on the PodJohns here, but I have to say that the post-election Love It or Leave It episode has one of the more sobering, thoughtful takes I’ve heard in media post-election. Especially the last question he takes in the Q&A section of the show about high school kids’ apathy.

I wonder how likely these proposed tariffs really are. Does Trump really want to piss off his base that quickly? I mean, the dude lies through his teeth to win votes all the time. Hard to know which plans of his are the truth.

But, I'm not really doubting that he might do it, either.

My guess if they do go through with it, it's going to be targeted mostly at China. Which is just going to have firms move their production to Vietnam or other SE Asian countries and then piss off the Chinese.

just about everything he's said he's going to do I'm like 50/50 on if he'll try and the institutions in place will keep it from happening (leaving NATO, tariffs), if he'll try and the institutions will step aside and allow him (mass deportation, 14th amendment), or if he's just talking out of his ass and wont' do it (paying harris debts).

I have been trying to look at Argentina and El Salvador to what to expect

Here is what MileI has done in Argentina so far

    • Milei has made an unprecedented cut to all public spending at close to 30%.
    • He cut investment in education by 40%
    • denied increases to pensions
    • cut access to life-saving drugs for cancer patients
    • defunded the science and technology system and universities
    • laid off almost 27,000 public employees
    • He closed the public media
    • froze food distribution to soup kitchen
    • he’s set to sell-off public companies in the fields of nuclear energy, aviation, fuel, mining, electricity, water, cargo transport, roads and railways.
    • Milei has eliminated nine ministries, including the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity and the Ministry of Education
    • Milei has dismantled all gender policies and defunded services including those for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Last year, more than 170,000 people accessed these services, while official figures show that a femicide is committed every 35 hours in Argentina. It is now unclear whether anyone will continue to keep track of these statistics.
    • Milei is actively persecuting civil servants who don’t follow his mindset. In a letter to the diplomatic corps, he demanded those who don’t align with his foreign policy ideas to “step aside”, specifically referencing his plan to repudiate the UN's Agenda 2030 which governments have signed to combat poverty, inequality and environmental destruction. Days later, in a statement, he announced a purge: “The executive branch will launch an audit of the career staff of the foreign ministry with the aim of identifying promoters of anti-freedom ideas”.
    • The right to abortion, legalised in 2020 in Argentina, is in danger under Milei. His party introduced a bill to repeal abortion which he’s referred to as “aggravated murder”. He’s also defunded the distribution of abortion pills and contraceptives.
    • Milei eliminated a programme to prevent teenage pregnancy and has not set aside any funds in the 2025 budget for comprehensive sex education – which is mandatory by law and considered essential to prevent child abuse. Instead, authorities hired the Chilean Catholic organisation Teen Star, that promotes abstinence, for training teachers in charge of CSE.
    • Milei banned the use of gender inclusive language in public services, and put a Catholic lawyer, Ursula Basset, in the foreign ministry to review all the country's positions on gender and climate change. At the last Organisation of American States General Assembly, Basset stymied the negotiations by demanding the removal of “LGBTI people”, “gender”, “tolerance”, “climate change” and “families” from agreed intergovernmental statements.
    • At the G20 meeting, Argentina ended up in a more extreme position on gender than Saudi Arabia or Russia”
    • When Milei took office, he warned the Argentine people that their economic plight might briefly worsen under his harsh measures. This is exactly what millions are now suffering: more poverty and recession

My hope is that this election was such a failure for the Dems that the ideas and strategies implemented by Harris that were obvious failures will be completely dunked on by anyone who isn’t paid to make up good opinions on those ideas and strategies, and also that whoever is paid to make up good opinions on them is laughed out of any fuckin room they’re in by anyone who encounters them.

  24. Was listening to some good 'ol fashion punk music around the house today while doing some chores. You know #fuckauthority, and one thing that the lyrics got me thinking about was how easily the Democrats CEDED to Trump being the party of the outside/the rebel/the counter culture. No fucking wonder people look at him and go "yeah, fuck the status quo, let's shake it up."

The next democrat to win will need to at least read like Bernie, an outsider, someone fighting the party.

Random Sunday thought. Also, playing Pennywise loud around the house has been quite cathartic today.

lol Chris Wade on Chapo "people keep asking 'where is the left thing that speaks to these kind of rude young men?', and I am like well I have spent over 20 thousand hours editing it. If the Soros Foundation wants to give us some series A funding I guess I'll give them a call"
