When you are consultant and focus grouped to death the inauthenticity is palpable.

 

I’ve been really grateful for you folks in here this week, explaining how all of this happened and why and who is really to blame and what we can do about it realistically. It’s made digesting this just slightly better. It’s also led to a lot of frustration with the stock liberals in my life who I’ve been seeing posting their responses to the election all week. Everything they’re saying is verbatim exactly what they said all the way back in 2016 as if no time has passed at all and no one has learned anything. The same scolding and generalizing everyone who voted Trump as outright evil without seeing how that’s doing nothing for the cause and is one of the many factors that led to this a second time in the first place.

I voted third party in 2016 and had a lot of those people yell at me for it. This time I voted for Harris despite not wanting to and feeling sick to my stomach over it and overwhelmed with guilt, and…it did nothing anyway. And now, like @sophos34 said, I’m filled with a lot of regret over that decision. But the same people who said the same shit in 2016 that they are saying now have made no moves toward a new perspective. Instead, I’m now seeing them begin to capitulate to the Blue Anon garbage about how this election is the one that totally got stolen and I want to throw my hands up and scream into the GardenState.gif abyss because it feels like we’re already headed for a repeat of this stupidity in 2028. I follow a lot of religious deconstruction accounts because they’ve offered me a lot of comfort the last several years while I’ve been on my own journey, but I am finding myself suddenly very frustrated with them too because they are also doing the same things. Now where I once found comfort I am finding a lot of projection instead. They spent years railing against indoctrination and ideology and have traded it in for seemingly the same thing on the opposite end of the spectrum with very little room for self reflection.

Everything is making me feel very empty inside.

 

I’m in the exact same situation. Currently making more money than I ever thought I would tbh, not an exorbitant amount, but enough that I shouldn’t complain, but every fucking year everything else around us keeps going up 4-5x more than my wages and I’m back to square one

I agree with some of this but Harris herself has always been like this going back for years. She has always tried to live in this world of kind of embracing progressive policies almost begrudgingly and then has always had ties to elitist, rich California money streams that emanate from Silicon Valley. I think this is a big portion of why she exited the primaries last election as people kind of saw through that bullshit.

2011. My (now ex-) wife and I were both making $45k/yr., and we bought a 3200 sq. ft. house not in the middle of nowhere for $182k including all appliances, sprinklers, and garage door openers. We only put down 5% deposit, and the mortgage was a 30 year 4.5% rate. We sold that house 3 years later for $255k and used the money as a down payment for our $475k 4,300 sq. ft. house that was further away and much nicer. That house peaked in value when we divorced in 2021 when it was worth roughly $775k.

I felt like the economy was good and fair in both 2011 and 2014. It's kind of crazy now.

It's insane how out of touch some people are. I'd love to know the demographics of those searches.

I actually got a free PS3 and free iPad out of those things. They were legit, but they were a pain in the ass and required a lot of planning, evidence, and documentation.

I actually do have “rich” parents but with four kids whatever I would hypnotically get will not be what you’d think lol. They also have one more to send through college and that’s not gonna be as cheap as it was for the first three
