    O shit

Ok, I did Pompeii and Murder By Death, who are the 2 most underrated artists of all time imo, so gotta think what to follow those up with…

I’ll shout out a buzzy up and coming Buffalo hardcore band !

if you’re not into hardcore this probably won’t change your mind, but worth a shot.

also love to see female fronted HxC bands, obviously the scene is male dominated so I think it takes some bravery to put yourself out there.

Super fun live band, they have been touring a decent amount so check them out if they come through your area!

  3. hell yeah

  4. Cool hardcore record, and it flies by. Not sure I love the production, especially on the vocals, but I do think they would be a lot of fun to see live.

    hmmm

Forgot about this album until yesterday when I was busy and then out at a gig.

Threw it on today and it's ace. Couldn't care less what the lyrics are; sonically, this is exactly what a modern hardcore record should be. Packs so much in 15 minutes, it's unreal. Love that bouncing-off-the-walls Beastie Boys delay on the vocal. Even the lo-fi track is cool. No way they're not a blast live.

Overall not something I would typically throw on but enjoyed it and glad I was introduced to it. Which makes this a great selection

Destroyer's Kaputt is one of my 10 all-time favorite albums. Some of y'all may be familiar with it, but my hope is that I introduce someone new to it.

I found this album while I was in college. It was late night and I was writing a paper in the library, looking for some new music to torrent (ha!) to keep myself awake. I went on Pitchfork and this album by a band called Destroyer had Best New Music - assumed it was a loud metal band and downloaded it without reading the review. Dan Bejar's lounge lizard, cynic-in-the-corner songwriting could not have been less what I expected in that moment, but it was certainly what I needed in the long term. Since then, I have listened to this as much as any other record in my life. After hearing my story, it seems to make a lot of sense to pick this one after the last album chosen. Hope you enjoy!

Great pick and I think the only Destroyer album I’ve listened all the way through. They’ve always reminded me a bit of The National, or at least they share a similar headspace.

If you’re looking for another one instead, I would recommend their latest album LABYRINTHITIS from 2022, which pushes post punk-y textures to the forefront in a way that’s really cool.

Got into SPACED late last year or early this year. Such a fun band and that record rules.

I remember being a fan of that Destroyer album years ago, definitely glad to be revisiting it soon

I kind of checked out of the internet this week with everything that happened, catching up on SPACED now and it’s sick. Good pick

  14. Something about the mix on that SPACED record isn’t hitting with me but the songs clearly go hard, would see live

Yeah this Destroyer record is still a great one. Dan Bejar is pretty reminiscent of Matt Berninger style-wise to me

I thought I heard this Destroyer album but this is not the album I was thinking of. Way more groovy and dancy than I was expecting. I dig it

  18. Yeah, using reference points I'm familiar with, this feel like a mix of the The National, Youth Lagoon, and The Blue Nile. Really cool so far. "Chinatown" is a perfect opener

  19. Yeah, I really, really enjoyed this and look forward to spending more time with it, especially on winter nights. My favorites were "Chinatown," "Suicide Demo for Kara Walker," "Downtown," and "Bay of Pigs (Detail)." Excited to jump into the lyrics a bit more on my next listen as well

there are many cynical and satirical lyricists, but Dan Bejar is one of the only folks that I feel comfortable calling "sardonic". this is one of his more wistful and hopeful records.

Doing some catch up. Siouxse and the Banshees was way different than I was expecting. I’d only heard “Halloween” before, so I was kind of envisioned more along those lines, but that’s actually one of the weaker songs on the album. It’s so much more moody and textured. The songs resist the urge to just go full noisy punk all the time and have a sense of patience to them. At the same time they know when to kick the volume up a notch too. Spellbound, Into The Light, and Monitor are my early favorites.

Listening to Kaputt now, been a busy week for me. But man, the atmosphere of this thing is beautiful. I could luxuriate in these textures, so smooth and warm and hopeful. I def hear The National but I don’t think they ever achieved anything as lush as this. Honestly gives me A Billion Little Lights-era Wild Pink vibes at times, wonder if they are fans of this record at all.
