there is something really special about web forums' ability to let you sharpen your beliefs. you join an online community and hang out there, you say stupid shit, you argue, but you don't leave because you like it there or it feels like something that adds to your life. as stupid as that sounds... hell, a good portion of us have been on versions of AP/Chorus for nearly two decades. on social media you're just colliding with random people and never speaking again, how could it possibly add to your understanding of yourself and the world?

I wonder if Discord is having these sorts of effects but I just don't know about it because I'm not on there.

This is a new study showing old news that we’ve talked about here before, but posting it because seeing it reminded me of all the morons in 2020/2021 saying “what happened to the flu? Where did all the flu cases go?!” as if it was part of some big conspiracy….or, better yet, the implication being a lot of these covid cases were actually flu cases, and yet it never crossed their mind that that would have meant the flu had suddenly mutated to be more seriously and deadly, which would have been a very scary development lol

I kept seeing people say he was the most popular candidate running out of the four, which sounds nice and all, but I don't see how he's more popular than trump is to trump people... I suppose they mean there are more people who Tim Walz appeals to than there are MAGA people, but I don't know.

it seems like she picked him before she had settled on what her main strategy was gonna be, and he ended up not fitting into what she was doing (Diet Republican), which probably should've been a red flag for her and her campaign

Just imagine I responded to this with that Matt Christman clip about fascism and the collapse of liberal institutions

Building your base with suburbanites with college degrees is building your house on the goddamn sand. I remember saying this was dumb as fuck back then and it’s dumb as fuck now.

well Nate made me watch a 35-minute documentary on the Russian Revolution last night (which, according to YouTube, was produced for The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones DVD!?!) so I am feeling pretty revolutionary this morning

i liked it till the end, which was to be expected. The bolsheviks were right in dissolving the constituent assembly! Centralization of the soviets and state was needed, especially given the civil war and being surrounded and invaded by capitalist empires!

Because its completely devoid of reality, there are poor/working class people everywhere. There is a throughline for that group and when you start abandoning them in rural areas it flows right through to suburbs and cities. My guess is that group also would probably poll as having the least confidence in politicians and the political class and then you have an "outsider" like Trump come in. Goes back to that Andy Kim thread I posted and your follow-up on it.

It’s a fucking shame what the Dems have allowed to happen with Gen-Z men. This was the generation that should have been fully embraced and listened to. Growing up with all the trauma of school shootings and the climate catastrophe. They showed what they were willing to stand up for, they were right there, and they just let them get sucked into the republican rabbit hole with no opposition to it. Social media is partly to blame, sure, but the Dems offered nothing and in return got nothing

  23. I actually feel really bad for these people because it shows the abject failure of the Democratic Party. I lay this at those feet more than the voters tbh. I know a swath of dems that will have no empathy here, and I think that’s symbolic of why they lose.

I feel terrible for my boss, she did not vote for Trump but I know a ton of her family did. She has a daughter with autism and when they gut the Department of Ed, its going to absolutely decimate special education funding in this country. That is who my heart hurts for. Which goes back to why were they not campaigning on this and highlighting the damage it would do.
