I think for me, I miss Jerry Finn and what his albums had that everything after have been lacking but still even if it has been good to great, I loved his placements of extra instruments that heightened the songs. He's still my favorite producer they have worked with.

Yeah the random effects and pieces on Untitled makes it something that will never be topped for me. Going back to that album I'm constantly surprised at how gigantic of a leap they took in terms of adding additional instruments and effects that were not present on any of their previous work.

It's kinda hard to surpass an album that rewired your brain at a young impressionable age

I thought Dude Ranch would be above Neighborhoods and DED. Aside from that, more or less what I expected.

  5. Listening to Nine for mayyyybe the first time since OMT came out? and most of it still rules. It's always crazy to me to see people rank it lower than California. It's got its flaws here and there, but the majority of it is great, and a huge step up from California overall. BUT THAT'S JUST ME!

I'm Nine > Neighbs > Cali when it comes to that point in the timeline

When I am in the mood to revisit California, the only songs I go back to are Cynical, Bored to Death, She's Out of Her Mind, Sober, Rabbit Hole, and The Only Things That Matters.

California feels like a statement piece. Very much a "we're still here and can do fun pop-punk".

I really enjoy She's Out Of Her Mind, Left Alone, Teenage Satellites, Rabbit Hole and The Only Thing That Matters, and again, fucking love Skiba and his legacy in blink is important.

Brohemian Rhapsody can get in the fucking bin though.

I definitely prefer what they went for on Nine over California, but I honestly don’t really return to either with Tom back in the band

I was definitely in the camp of wanting them to continue in an Untitled direction right off the bat, but the record makes total sense in wanting it to be accessible to have Skiba accepted into the band and also to just let Mark have fun again

Pretty spot on how I feel! I'm in the "Skiba Albums > First Reunion Tom Album/EP" camp, but other than that, most of albums you listed within those tiers are pretty interchangeable for me in terms of preference.

If I were to put the best songs off of the Skiba albums into one album they would be higher up my rank. There's too many songs with insanely cringey lyrics "we're teenage satellites" that make me skip the song. But there are some great stuff too.

The California era was much, much better to the almost nonexistent sloppy NINE era, but I do think those albums are way closer that most give NINE credit for.

I would've loved if they had been more focused/had more of a vision and made killer videos for No Heart or Pin The Grenade or Black Rain

those 3 songs are top tier

bottom tier: happy days, on some emo shit, remember to forget me
i know a lot of people would assume "blame it on my youth" should be in the bottom tier, but i have a soft spot for that song

On Some Emo Shit is in the top tier Nine songs for me.

I think them releasing Blame It On My Youth and Happy Days, which are two of the weaker songs on the album, killed the momentum for the album. If they released Darkside first I think the label would have marketed the album better/harder. Also going on tour before the album came out hurt that too.

Even though I like Nine more than California, it takes a minute to get to the stuff I love on that album. The last few songs are some of their best. But man… those first 2 songs are a weak start. Especially compared to Cynical -> Bored to Death and Anthem Part 3 -> Dance With Me on the surrounding albums
