I find it interesting that for a lot of us our heroes were mostly liberals and leftists growing up, and for gen z theirs are on the right. We tried to push equality and now it is mocked. Being woke is an insult. We finally have media that isn't 99.9999 % white and the roles we are allowed aren't some stupid stereotype of whatever racists think we should be, but now there is a stronger push back to the good old days of whites only hollywood. I assumed the gen z would continue that progress but our country is reverting back to what it has always been.

Absolutely true. And there is an audience for that ... probably my friends ... but it's not capturing the youth, definitely not capturing the working person in a way someone like Rogan is. Rogan has this weird talk show, just wanna hear him talk, and people just like him and hanging out with him kinda vibe. Never been for me, but I do get it.

 

My feeling is that this is because talking about social equality without addressing people’s material concerns leads the former to getting mocked while people struggle with the latter. These were always meant to be parts of one discussion and instead they were presented as either/or paths for the cynical purpose of shutting down discussions that would lead to actual power analysis. “How is breaking up the banks going to end racism” type stuff.

 

Just saw a clip of Stephen A Smith saying Harris losing was a referendum on “the left” and “the progressive wing” of the party in a negative way. I see his political analysis is as bad his shallow sports takes. I’m not sure why networks are having him to talk about politics at all

The education gap between men and woman and the earnings differences (even factoring in woman still make less with males of similar education levels) that results from that education gap is going to reverberate into culture. I mean even I think we are seeing it with high school education levels as well that men lag behind woman. The data below is from 2020 and I believe its grown even since then.

 

Off topic but my wife used to watch the soap opera General Hospital and there was a stretch where we watched it together and Stephen A Smith would randomly cameo on there and it caught me off guard so much. Felt like a fever dream randomly seeing him pop up

I don’t think they’ll bother banning porn, it’s so complicated all the avenues available. But it would probably be a net good to regulate the studio produced stuff, there’s some brain warping content out there getting beamed into teen’s heads 24/7.

 

It's almost like the current day version of talk radio or just having ESPN on all day. I don't think people are closely listening to those 3-hour Rogan pods, they just have them on and casually listen and pick up little bits of that personality and way of talking.

my thought as well, and going back to recruiting leftist streamers, there is no better generation than ours, the millennials, to speak to Gen Z and relate to them and help them figure things out and come into their own.

We've grown up and seen an election literally stollen by the supreme court, an actual terrorist attack on our soil, an actual lie from the government to invade another country, the expansion of the police state, endless wars, a recession, an election centered around identity politics, the feeling of abandonment and hope after a charismatic leader reneged on their promises, a global pandemic, and have been coming into adulthood in an economy that doesn't work for us and we are having less opportunities than previous generations for the first in american history.

We can relate to them and provide them with answers and advice from leftists perspectives, but we don't have that many voices. so that's why they turn to Tate and Peterson and Ross and say it's because of woke. they're just taking the first person/channel/account that the algo shows them and since there is very little counter to that, they run with it.

 

My 70-year old mom still watches that show. She's been watching it nearly the whole time since it debuted in 1963.

My wife's mom is a lifetime watcher too which I assume is how she got so into it. My wife didn't stop watching until a few years ago but her mom still tells us about things happening currently on the show

 

it doesn’t help that getting a college degree in this country is ridiculously expensive
