This started in 2014 I think with Gamergate. Right wing Culture War started seeping into innocuous pop culture content on YouTube and other places and it grew from there. At some point content creators in video games, in fitness, in comedy, ect realized if they try to appeal to a right wing audience and add a culture war grievance spin it gets them more revenue because the sponsorships in that space are more lucrative (the right wing grifter was born)

After awhile that content eventual started to become fed to these boys when they were teens through the algorithm to where now every almost every genre of content that appeals to young men is steeped in a layer of reactionary bullshit even if it isn't explicitly political content.

 

Sometimes I think of Bad Religion’s “Punk Rock Song,” which came out in 1996. In it, he laments “10 million dollars on a losing campaign.”

I'm not sure I believe most voters even care about how it's ran, if it's ran like a business or not. They care how it feels to be able to provide for themselves and their family, how they see themselves as individuals and as community members, and how their neighbors and friends are getting by. Address their material conditions and make them feel heard to where they don't have to think about the State vs the Market or whatever. idk
