I just don't have a good solution for the fact that people in this country saw millions of people trying to enter our country and were easily duped into thinking that was actually the cause of all their economic problems and the solution is to stop them and get rid of them. Messaging about it doesn't seem to work. Inflation happened and crime happened and it's the immigrants fault, if we deport all of them and don't let anyone else it, that'll fix inflation and crime. No matter that crime is back down, inflation is back down, and immigration is back down and most of the people that did enter entered legally via the asylum system. None of that mattered.

    were they duped tho?

at some point you're not 'being duped', you're making a choice of what you want your country to be

which is more upsetting to me tbh

  4. Messaging about it doesn’t work?? Who was providing the left wing messaging about immigration in this race lol

Basically all of 2022/23 was Dems pushing the idea that the asylum system needed to be funded better, that we needed to address the issues in their home countries, etc....when it became clear that no one was giving a fuck about all that in 2024 and the immigration wave wasn't abating, they tried to logroll some of those solutions in with more border security because it was clear that's what people wanted.

Lol right! Wtf are people talking about. There was no counternarrative to Trump’s rhetoric on migration at all, only subtle reinforcement of it.

before this morning, I was mentally preparing myself for a narrow Harris win where trump stole power thru other means

I was not mentally prepared for a trump blowout

I’m not confident in that. When you don’t provide an actual alternative, then you’ve basically given Trump freedom to set the narrative and allow the “vibes and fear” to take over. You can connect that to immigrants being 1 in 15 households in the US, their neighbors, their coworkers, their local business owners, etc. that we offer them a better life and more hope and that is something to be proud of, not shy away from and be quiet about! Every opportunity to rebuke what Trump was selling was met with “actually we’ll be more right wing on immigration” is not how you win that fight!

Dems overperformed in 2022 on the basis that people found republicans grotesque! I think you need a long nap.

  15. It's very funny to me that people thought white women would vote for Kamala. White women hate black women even more than black men. Lots of them don't even think a woman should be President lol

Right...this is kind of the conclusion I'm arriving at. I hope it will change over the next two years as people see what this really entails, but right now, it feels like to me this is what the country wants and this is who the people are. I know that's a bit doomer right now and the votes exist out there for something else, but...it's where I'm at right now. Accepting that nearly every policy you want will probably never happen in your lifetime now is depressing lol

Kamala and the democrats were faced with the challenge of coming from a deeply unpopular administration and running against a deeply unpopular opponent, and somehow embraced the policies of the unpopular opponent while not distancing themselves at all from the unpopular administration. It’s hard to think of a bigger political whiff.

Yeah it was never gonna work, electing a different candidate when Biden dropped out was probably their only chance but unsure of the logistics behind actually doing that.

Abortion ban lifted in Missouri while it remains the deepest deep red you can imagine confirms this

I sincerely can’t wrap my head around the idea of either
    (1) Walz being a bad VP pick at all, given that he had zero baggage and is pretty easily the most charismatic and like-able of all four people on the ticket, but also
    (2) the VP decision having anything to do with such a clear victory, like sorry but there’s absolutely no reason now to think it would have had any bearing on this decisive of an outcome

They could’ve done a rushed primary. They really could’ve done anything but what they did

Tell this to the Missourians that just voted to protect abortion access, raise the minimum wage, provide paid sick leave, and still voted for trump over Harris.

most people aren’t evil or hateful! Most people at the very least don’t want their neighbors and friends and family to actively suffer! But when you don’t provide them an alternative, this is what you get!

Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

This party has been broken since the 2016 primaries, Biden only won in 2020 off the back off a historic worldwide pandemic, this should absolutely be the biggest wakeup call... But we say that Everytime huh?

It’s so easy to hand waive the loss away because “people who voted against us are evil” and that’s why we’re in the position we’re in
