I really don't think it would've mattered who ran unless Biden announced in 2023 or very early 2024. I liked Kamala and she had a surge when she was initially picked but it fell apart

My son, Heath, was born about a month and a half before he won the 2016 election. Those four years absolutely sucked for my brain. I still haven't forgotten many of the things I read and saw unfold while he was in power, but my one saving grace at the time was knowing that my little man was gonna be too young to remember any of it.

I didn't give one shit about Joe Biden when I voted for him 4 years ago, I was just relieved we got that fucker out of there and I wouldn't have to explain much about that weird time in history to Heath as he went through his early school years and began to understand the world around him. Kamala inspired me in zero ways, especially when taking into account what gets discussed in here every day. But he's 8 now, in second grade, and 3 days ago I found out that he knew who both Trump and Kamala are (my wife told him about the election and why she's been so on edge lately) and he got really emotionally invested in what's happening. Fuck, is it gonna hurt when he wakes up tomorrow morning and asks me who won.

Biden won A) because i don’t think any president could win reelection in the midst of COVID, and B) he actually did run to Harris’s left. Fucked up as Trump is, he gives people an explanation as to why they’re struggling (scapegoating marginalized groups, specifically migrants) and says what he’s going to do to fix that (mass deportation, tax cuts, etc.). It’s racist xenophobic bullshit, but the Democrats don’t offer anything that truly counters it - “look at these charts, you’re actually fine what are you complaining for?” type attitudes. A better Party would be capable of explaining that the wealthy ruling class are the enemies of the people, and explaining what they’d do to help you defeat them and improve your life.
