I haven’t even read it and think that’s dumb. I can’t imagine any adaptation actually getting the creative team it deserves

there are more than a few novels that are said to be pretty unfilmable (Infinite Jest, Blood Meridian) and House of Leaves might be the most unfilmable one of them all tbh

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

the writer of House of Leaves wrote a script for a television pilot a couple years back and yeah it was basically unfilmable lol, I don't know if that's what y'all are thinking of but it's in circulation on the net

Thief of Always would be sick, I'm always here for more Barker movies

  9. Wasn't sure about Frankie Freako at first, but it's really growing on me. Huge Full Moon Features vibes lol

Watched Horror in the High Desert 3. Feels like episode 3 in a miniseries and i'm not a fan

  12. Damn, I liked it a lot. I'm not claustrophobic, but the ending gave me pretty extreme anxiety

  14. Danielewski talked quite a bit about a possible TV adaption, maybe with Netflix, around 2017/2018. He wrote screenplays for a few episodes (available here if you want to buy them, but I'm sure you can get them other ways too). I read the first one and thought it was frankly pretty bad.

I agree that there's basically no way to adapt it, but I do think Skinamarink is the closest I've seen anything come to capturing the feeling of the movie inside House of Leaves, so if it has to happen I hope Kyle Edward Ball is in the mix to work on it.

Hope everyone is doing their best version of okay today! I just got home from therapy, so she had to put up with most of my venting. lol

If Mason Gooding can survive that many stabbings across two Scream movies, then we can survive this fucked up shit. But I mostly just hope everyone is doing okay right now. I’m probably gonna make a new playlist on plex and just marathon some horror movies the next few days.

  16. Likewise, sending my love to all of you. I will not be practicing self-care tonight by finishing The Crow (2024).

Even though I told him I didn’t care my buddy explained the plot of that movie to me in way too much detail while driving to a concert.

I'm not saying i disliked it, but 2 remains my fav for the amount of stuff that actually happens and it being creepy.

just felt like the setup for another film versus focusing on telling a story itself, i guess is what i'm trying to say.

I watched Time Cut and wished they would have fleshed out everything a little bit more. I think they could have done a little bit more with exploring grief and I guess the ending felt convenient in that sense but at the expense of character growth. But if the ending had been more depressing I probably would be complaining about that too. So can't win either way lol.

The 00s setting felt like it could have been more rich and explored too. It was definitely a nostalgic idealized version and I think it would have been interesting if it had explored the realities of living in the 00s instead of just leaning on it for comedic effect. There was a throwaway line about how more accepting it is in the future but for folks who didn't live through the 00s I don't feel like it really captured the dynamics of life back then at all. I'm not saying I needed people throwing slurs around and stuff, but there is so much problematic stuff from that time they could've touched on even briefly

Also felt like the killers motivation was kinda meh

But overall I found it entertaining and fine and it made me feel old like it probably intended to
