Going on a Deftones lyrics hunt and finding I have misheard more lyrics from them than any other band.

For example, I always thought the line in Hexagram was "the camera makes you seem fat" but it's apparently "the camera makes you seasick". Which makes no sense.

 

I assume that's a reference to "shakycam" (a la "found footage" films) causing motion sickness/nausea.

 

Maybe. It's just being on camera making someone seem fat is such a common expression/trope that it sounds more logical.

 

idk "the camera makes you seem fat" doesn't scan like a Chino lyric to me. needs to be hornier and/or more abstract.

On Around The Fur, I thought he said “police don’t fuck around,” instead of “please don’t fuck around”

 

It’s also a pretty common misconception among fans that Chino says “I piss too much” in Rickets lmao

The worst is how many people sincerely think that the second line in Lifter is, ‘Been giving God a pedophile'.

 

I also thought the line in "Needles And Pins" was "I'll fail if that's what you want." It’s not.

 

"The camera makes you seem fat" seems like an insane thing to hear in that song but I also had a roommate who thought one of the chorus lyrics in Boulevard of Broken Dreams was "Sometimes I wish a hungry bear would find me"

 

The camera makes you sea sick is a reference to journalism/camera operators running in conflict during firefights. If I recall

 

Hexagram is about the Middle East from what I remember. “Worship.Play.” Etc

 

I always thought the line was “the camera makes you see straight.” Learned something new today.

 

This reminds me of the times i'll try to sing along live and half way i'm like wait are these the right lyrics?

also I know it’s been a long time since the CD era but pretty sure most of the Deftones albums and liner notes with lyrics lol

 

I don't think it's insane but then again, I thought Hexagram was about Hollywood with the whole everyone being proud and the camera and I thought the car bomb thing was like a famous star getting murdered.

I can't understand Chino's lyrics at the best of times, so I kind of choose my own adventure.

They definitely did for self titled, I got it taken away by my mom for a period of time because of needles and pins saying "Who wants to fuck with us now?"

it did not repeat the line 15 times like he does in the song though.
