I think it has evolved over the years, but I know at one point they were pitching it as 1930's set prequel that was a also remake of the 1952 showbiz buddy comedy The Stooge, where Roger Rabbit was in the comic foil Jerry Lewis role and Mickey Mouse was in the straight man Dean Martin role. Where they play vaudeville comedy duo act partners who experience a fallout after Mickey finds solo success. That seemed awesome.
