FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

The amount of "Judge ruined his legacy, not my captain, I don't care if he hits 100 home runs" shit online today is so fucking stupid

  5. I dunno - just pull out?

  6. That one’s pretty funny (and Judge had a better World Series than the narrative woulda had everyone believing).

This will always be a sloppy defensive and baserunning team under Boone, just too much of a casual it'll be fine mood with him. Hard to be optimistic about that aspect if he stays

  13. Ladies and gentlemen, a momentous chapter in the annals of sport draws to a close. After a career spanning decades, hundreds of games, thousands of pitches, and even more stories, I—Bob Costas—have decided, after much contemplation, to retire from calling Major League Baseball games.

Now, this decision did not come lightly, nor should it. The art of play-by-play announcing is not simply rattling off statistics and narrating ground balls, and it is certainly more than inserting the correct combination of verbs and adjectives into every "pop-up to left field." No—this is a centuries-old institution. It requires an understanding of the game that is so granular, so intimate, that one’s voice becomes as familiar as the crack of the bat, as timeless as the hum of the crowd. And yet, here I am, handing over the reins of history.

Baseball. What a thing to behold! The game is eternal, persistent as the pulse of America itself. A torch lit by the likes of Cy Young and Honus Wagner, passed along to Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Mays, Gibson, Koufax, Seaver, and Griffey. It’s not just a game; it’s America’s secular religion, a sanctuary for reflection, for reverie, for… yes, nostalgia.

It’s 90 feet between bases, but a lifetime passes in every steal, every slide, every graceful turn of the double play. Where else but in baseball can you find this pace? That leisurely, unhurried march that invites not only the players but also the fans, the announcers, and the listener at home to step inside its ever-beating heart. Now, I’m well aware that for many, the appeal of a speedy shot clock or a rapidly clicking scoreboard holds allure, but let me tell you—there’s something transcendent, something profoundly poetic, about the stillness of a full-count pitch, about the brush of dirt off a jersey at second base, about the timeless dance of glove and ball, bat and leather.

Now, my wife, my children, my close friends—they’ve all heard me go on like this, but for years now, they’ve also understood that I could never quite leave baseball behind. I have been its steward, its loyal interpreter, its faithful chronicler. Perhaps that’s why I feel such a strange bittersweetness now, in this moment, as I say goodbye. It was Joe DiMaggio who once said, "I thank the good Lord for making me a Yankee." I can only say, I thank the good Lord for making me a baseball announcer.

I’m reminded of a line from "Casey at the Bat," that staple of American verse which has resonated across generations: “Oh, somewhere in this favored land, the sun is shining bright.” Well, my friends, the sun will continue to shine on baseball, long after my voice has faded from the microphones. And may it always shine. Thank you. Thank you, all of you, for listening. For your patience, your trust, and for allowing me to paint, in words, a picture of America’s past, present, and, I trust, its future.

And so I leave this broadcast booth in good hands, filled with pride, and a touch of sadness, but mostly with gratitude that I got to play a small part in this great American story.

What an absurd thing to post about such a classic film. It's not like they skip over one of the greatest starting rotations of all time, or an MVP candidate at short or anything.
