I think even if he’d immaculately managed the postseason it’s a “gotta nuke somebody” situation

 

that he hasn’t already been canned after previous postseason crash outs is the trepidation on my end

I don’t feel particularly confident either way lol

 

I don't think he's gone. But saying he liked the match-up of Nestor in game 1 is an absolutely indefensible move and it broke their back. Obviously plenty of reasons they're down 3-0 but yeah

 

The best thing he could do for his job security right now is to get really tight with Soto if he isnt already lol

 

for all his failings, Boone doesn’t build and make the roster. Like the Yankees lineup all season felt like Soto + Judge and then 7 other barely warm bodies. Cashman should be equally in the hot seat but he feels like a lifetime appointment

 

brian cashman will have his job until he no longer wants it. to think anything else is just fooling yourself.

 

Cashman is for sure a bigger problem but he's basically a Supreme Court Justice at this point

 

The only solution is to fire Aaron Judge

I don’t have a strong opinion on Boone overall—although, as expressed the other night it does seem like he gets scared and gets too cute in the playoffs. So maybe he’s a subpar tactician. But it does seem like he does the “people manager” side of the job pretty well.

That being said, it just feels like if there’s going to be a time for them to move on from Boone, this week/next week is the time, barring a historic comeback. Unless the Yankees retain Torres or Kahnle then Judge will be the only player on the team next year who was on it when Boone took over. (I’m assuming he was hired before Stanton trade and am too lazy to check.) Baby Bombers era has been dead for a minute and 7 years is a long long time to manage a club in the modern game, even if you’ve gotten great results mostly.

I am once again reminded of Mike Matheny—and not just because of the Cortes move comp to the Wacha/Ishikawa disaster that cost us the NLCS in ‘14. Former role player who was viewed fondly by the franchise and fans, brought in primarily because he was a Leader of Men supposedly. Now Matheny was (I think) a bigger idiot when it comes to on field managing and he eventually lost the clubhouse too in the final months, but the 2012-15 run with mostly the holdovers from the previous era gave him a pretty long leash. He ran out of rope after about seven years, Fourth of July weekend 2018 I believe
