What is short-sighted? Just because he’s being benched now doesn’t mean they’re giving up on his career. He clearly isn’t ready for the starting role. Let him develop in practice and in the film room. Yeah, he needs some reps, but at what cost? His current play is stunting the growth of the entire roster and coaching staff. There is absolutely still a path to him being their guy. Throwing him to the wolves when he clearly isn’t ready doesn’t seem like the best course of action imo.

There’s just no putting him back out there immediately after he told reporters he took himself out of the game because he was tired. You cannot look the rest of your roster in the face if you start him immediately after that.

I think he might completely lose the locker room if he keeps playing now. Doesn’t mean he can’t develop into a decent/good QB.

  4. It’s similar to Bryce’s situation. He got benched for being an all-time bad QB. And in my opinion, he will never be much more than that, but it doesn’t mean the team was giving up on him. Guys used to sit for entire seasons and it was normal. These days, the rookie gets thrown out immediately in most cases. We still are producing good QBs, so it’s not always a bad idea, but I kinda miss the days of being patient and letting guys sit and learn.

Tbf if you’re drafting a qb chances are your team is not in a good place

I think if a QB throws an interception the team should murder them

Would make the games more exciting between two shit teams

    The rivalry is back on

It’s all part of the master plan

    1) Irsay takes things into his own hands as owner/GM, hires Jeff Saturday after all since there’s no one to tell him how awful of an idea that is
    2) be predictably terrible
    3) realize #1 was a bad decision and hire a good HC/GM combo
    4) draft Arch
    5) trade for MHJ when he realizes that Arizona stinks
    6) be a great regular season team and win a ring some time in there

Backup quarterbacks don't get developed in season, can read about it here but it's just the reality of how teams prepare. The thing AR needs more than anything is playing time, he is not gonna get more accurate/better sitting on the bench.

Honestly I think the Richardson tired thing is pretty stupid. He missed one snap. Everyone else outside of the OL gets 10+ snaps off a game. You could waste a time out or you could risk him making a mistake (very likely) or you can get one snap out of your back-up that is by all means the better QB right now anyway.

Also I can't speak to Richardson's mental state or anything like that but his issues struck me more as a lack of experience. Mahomes had to sit because he had the tools and ability but was playing an offense meant for 11 year olds. Josh Allen didn't need to sit because his issue wasn't playing in a pro offense it was not fucking up

Shout out to the Bills for letting Josh Allen suck for two seasons and develop into being one of the best QBs in the game.

    1. Given that it was a game where the winner would be leading the division...they should play the better QB
    2. Missing a snap at QB is very different than missing a snap at WR, packages are designed around a certain guy being QB at all times
    3. But yes, it still is a BIT overblown
    4. Richardson is not good at QB though and I don't think he's going to magically not throw it in the middle of nowhere ESPECIALLY if he's the one taking himself out when he ALREADY misses so many games

It’s a bit overblown but also has a QB ever done that before? Just lie and say he had a cramp or something. Don’t tell the media you were tired.

I know it's different but still I think we're being a bit dramatic over it (we as in, generally speaking). And yeah, Richardson is QUITE bad.

I think if Richardson wasn't as injury prone as he is it wouldn't be as big of a deal, but he's missed so many games at this point that he just HAS to prove reliability on showing up, so taking plays off sends the exact opposite message

Idk, I think it’s overlooked just how bad he’s been. The leash can and should be long for a top 5 pick QB, but he’s been the starting QB on paper for a year and a half and the Colts have gotten 0 games above 250 yards passing from him, haven’t gotten a game above 50% completion % from him this season, get multi-game absences from injuries that most guys would play through, have the self-benching fiasco, etc. If playing time was leading to improvement and there wasn’t all the other awful intangibles, this argument holds more water, but idk why playing more is gonna do something other than just more of the same

There’s shockingly litttle “damn, he really blew this chance/earned this benching” in the discourse because people think he’s entitled to an unrealistically long leash with no consequence for historically bad QB play

In the last game where he took that 1 play off he was passing for 31%

    That is REALLY bad

I know I've been joking around about Sam Ehlinger but I think he could reliably top 31% against the Texans with those WRs and he is not a skilled passer
