I would say it’s absolutely essential to check out early Tyler, in addition to the early OF releases as a whole (anything from 2009 to 2011). A lot of it has aged poorly and isn’t very good (Earl is a perfect example) but OF fingerprints are present in some current rap/r&b/pop, and it’s interesting to see how it’s originated.

he did this with IGOR too but having the 2part song be the bonus is wild

This is one of my favourite Tyler songs but it isn’t on any of his albums. Worth checking out

I didn't know that so many people had Goblin so low and Igor so high.

  8. I don't think those early albums have aged well with...almost anyone, lol. And I don't think IGOR is perfect, but it's really bold and completely opened the door to him creating characters/worlds around albums that are no longer just pigeonholed as "rap." It's a great and important record for him imo

This is a great album, especially in the evening. Can easily see it in my top three Tyler albums.

only 1/3 through but this is fantastic so far. Darling, I into Hey Jane is some of his best work ever. much stronger first impression than CMIYGL for me

yeah this could end up in his top 3 for me, it recontextualises so many of his styles and moods from Cherry Bomb to now in really interesting and creative ways. really feels like the closest we'll get to a definitive T album stylistically. Like Him hits really really hard, that "mama I'm chasing a ghost" bit.... man

didn't that use to be the standard and Beyonce changed it to Friday or something lmao

North America used to do Tuesday releases, other countries had different release dates. A global release date was implemented as an anti-piracy measure (if an album came out on a Monday in one country, it could be uploaded almost immediately and be available to pirated in countries where it wasn't out yet). Friday was chosen as the date, think the Beyonce attribution is because her self-titled was released on a Friday shortly before the change was made.

I really miss new music Tuesday...so many fond memories of growing up and getting new releases on Tuesday afternoons after school.

I have no clue where I’d rank this lol, given how much Noid has grown on me I’m just accepting it’s too soon to decide my feelings. I’m slightly disappointed that he didn’t take more risks production wise, but that’s moreso feeling like he has the potential to do so much with his knowledge and skills, the production is still amazing obviously. I think also I’ve kinda outgrown the sort of storytelling type songs like Judge Judy/Hey Jane and as a result those feel a bit weaker, esp because his delivery and the production don’t particularly standout to me. I will say St. Chroma is an immaculate intro, already up there with his best. Also On that topic of albums dropping on non Fridays, Earthgang just dropped an album (last night?) and first listen Of that was very pleasant, would recommend that one big time too

I always thought the knock knockin at the door was a reference to the Monica song in STICKY but I guess not.

    still a great song

Great write-up, I know the reviewer doesn't dictate the score but the review is glowing enough that I'd expect the score to be a little higher. This piece genuinely made me like the album even more

  25. this has officially overtaken IGOR for me, probably tied with CMIYGL at this point
