It’s like they don’t want you to find those artists!

The thing about bookstores is it makes sense because almost every book can be sorted by someone’s last name. With music, you have a mix of artists going by their full name, artists going by just a first name, bands, stage names, etc. I actually think it makes more sense to sort by the first letter every time (barring, like, band names that start with “The”) so you don’t have that inconsistency.

  2. I have it alphabetized by first name, but I have artists split by gender and also Paramore falls under Hayley Williams, Bachelor falls under Jay Som, Plains falls under Waxahatchee

    Things have changed.

I omit any articles before band/group names, and go by artist first name. Numbers last.

Also a first-name organizer. Ariana Grande next to Armor For Sleep may sound wrong but it feels right.

  5. I use Discogs sort pretty much. Helps me find things faster to pull it up there and check.

Meant to ask you awhile ago - how do you choose what records (wall picks) to listen to each week?

I sort all my albums by the middle name of the bassist. If there's no bassist, then the middle name of the drummer. If there's no drummer, then the mother's maiden name of the lead singer.

  8. Usually either something that feels like the “mood” the week or season. Lots of AFI/Alk3 this month. Or a color aesthetic. Or just what I’m actually listening to a bunch at the moment and want it around to make me feel happy. Kinda just a vibe check and feel.

speaking of I need to go swap those

I organize my last name if it’s their actual name. So Ben Gibbard is in the G but Frank Ocean is in the F

If I had to hazard a guess I’d say you’re new to collecting vinyl? This is the exact method we all use when we first start.

    DAMN, PPL

after 10 dozen 'damn' remarks, i left waterloo records in austin with linkin park's 'road to revolution' RSD UK red/black splatter for 130$.
and after telling myself i wouldn't buy another album for the rest of the year, i stumble on this:

Bullet For My Valentine "The Poison" 20th Anniversary 12" Vinyl Trustk

so my mail list (after a long while) is currently:
sum 41 - screaming bloody murder (nov)
    linkin park/jay z - collision course
bullet for my valentine - the poisin (nov)

Someone listed a promo LP copy of Runners In The Nerved World by The Sidekicks with the little Epitaph one-sheets on Discogs for cheap, instantly grabbed that one this morning to add to my collection. I've known those guys since they were in middle school and have been trying to grab everything I see by them.
