This is a damn fine cup of coffee.

I'm choosing to believe that he's been so busy making new Thrice music that he hasn't bothered to get a fresh fade.

Popping in to say that death from above is an underrated thrice song and I wish they’d play it more

  10. One of their best songs, not only post-hiatus. Love the chorus with those thick baritone guitar chords so much

Even though "To be everywhere" caught a bunch of flak for being/ sounding like radio rock, it is still my favorite post hiatus album of theirs. I definitely love the botch ish guitars on Death From Above's chorus. Even the weakest song Wake up has a catchy lead in the chorus. Such a solid album.

When the tambourine kicks in and Dustin starts belting out during Stay With Me, pure magic.

People talk bad about Wake Up but I love the imagery in the verses and lead up to the chorus. Song is good

  15. My favorite Thrice song is Hold Up a Light…

…kidding but TBEITBN is may be my second favorite Thrice record after Beggars. I could never shake the excitement of that album coming out. It also feels like it has a great through line of a vibe.

My gripe with Palms (and maybe this is a positive to some) is that the songs had this inconsistency in sound (thinking like Only Us vs My Soul or Just Breathe vs The Grey). Love the individual songs but TBE… always had this great consistency that I love.

Can’t wait for an announcement for new music though - band is gold!

The biggest gripe for me and is partially one of the reasons I like that they are taking their sweet time writing the next album is that Palms isn't their worst album (again for me) because of its varied sounds but varied quality. Somehow a gorgeous and powerful song like Beyond the pines is in the same album as a generic song like The dark. I feel like Thrice is so good that even though the instrumentals in The dark are bland and the lyrics aren't up to their standard they somehow make it work. I feel ultimately for me it sounded uninspired, and even during interviews the guys sounded like they didn't have much to comment on about the album. So i'm happy they aren't releasing an album every two years because they feel they are supposed to.

This is a damn fine cup of coffee.

Eric Palmquist maintained relatively consistent tones throughout TBE. They also didn't have endless time to dial in every part one by one for something unique, but that's basically what they did for Palms. They tracked guitars themselves for the specific purpose of having more time to find the right tone for each part. So, yeah, Palms doesn't sound as united in tone. I don't sense the issue as much on Horizons, so maybe they recognized it themselves. Who knows.

Yeah the tones and the mix on Palms never sits well with me. Just really subpar stuff. I know M/M has gotten some flak for its mix, but I think, sonically (and just in general), Palms is their worst album since TIOS or even since Identity Crisis.

I maintain that H/E was such a strong return to form and my favorite album of theirs sonically (tones, mix, etc) since Beggars. Might even be my favorite album of theirs in general since Beggars
