I hope people take videos and that they play things from No Devolucion so I can live vicariously through those videos. Still salty they decided to say fuck it to No Dev and Common Existence at Wrecking Ball, and that Turnpike Divides got cut last minute

You can tell that Geoff steals a lot of his lyrics from Chad or at the very least his metaphors also Nickelback have amazing bass lines and Thursday definitely rip those off.

Also Taking Back Sunday use piano and Thursday definitely stole that from them. TBS was formed in 1989 and Nickelback like a year after that and Thursday didnt get started until like 2005 so its p obvious.

ive spent like a day on Songmeanings and Genius just reading Thursday lyrics and interpretations. I hadnt realized how often Geoff makes call backs and sequel songs to previous material (Jet Black New Year/Tomorrow I'll Be You and Understanding In A Car Crash/Other Side Of The Crash being the most obvious).

Also the broad range of topics Thursday covers. Manifest destiny and racism (Autobiography of a Nation) slavery in the south (We Will Overcome) disenfranchisment with the military (Friends In The Armed Forces) the damage the atomic bomb has had on japan even to this day (Unintended Long Term Effects) a marriage falling apart (No Answers) misogyny in the scene (Signals Over the Air) and LGBTQ rights (Paris In Flames) just to name a few.

Basically what I'm trying to say is this band and mewithoutYou are the greatest bands to ever exist.

That's one of Thursday's biggest strengths -- versatility in all things, both sonic and lyrically. It's what keeps them endlessly fresh and why they're still a pretty unique band in this scene, FC and WATT aside, and even then the lyrics are better crafted on those than a lot of the bands who try to rip off that sonic identity. I think Geoff being a fairly well read dude helped to give them a lot of legitimacy when so many people seemed to kind of look(ed?) down on this kind of music

Everytime I get a notification from this thread my heart jumps that they've announced a 2017 tour/album or something haha. I really hope next year is productive for them as a band. In such a terrible world we need more Thursday.

Also, I think I've finally decided I WILL get my first tattoo - the Thursday dove. They've been my favourite band since I was 14, I'm now 26 so I can say with some certainty that this is definitely not a phase! They mean so much to me.

I am actually kind of torn on whether or not I want a new Thursday album. I think ND ended their run pretty flawlessly, and I don't have any like "oh, they shouldn't ruin their legacy!" hang ups, but their live shows up to this point have been pretty heavy on that early material, and I wonder if they'd pick up around there if they wrote something new. It'd be great, probably, but idk do I really need a regression in their sound when part of what I love is their willingness to experiment and branch out? Still, I recognize this is the entitled fan in me, just putting my own desires on artists who don't owe me anything and have already given me a lot, so what's it matter anyway? In the end I guess I'm in the camp I am with Brand New: excited for a new album, but if I don't ever get one, that's cool too because they already have a solid discography that I love.

This is a good article. Indie rock is really enamored with every band having to live up to the same few bands, and tbh that's probably one of the reasons emo revival got as big as it did a few years ago. On the surface level you have a lot of bands channeling 90s greats (it's what probably lured a lot of indie rock loving people after a bit of a slump in up and comers), but after you either dig passed those bands or those bands break up, the ones that last start pushing the genre outwards in ways that traditional indie rock wasn't and isn't really doing at the same time the formerly maligned stuff starts flourishing.

  21. not that what I want matters at all, but I would like a new tour but not a new album from these guys. They are not going to top their last album I don't think, but I never got a chance to see them live it would really really love to do so.

At most I would want a new EP. Their canon is perfect as is, new material is always nice but theyve given us so much that im perfectly content with the 80 or so songs they've left us.

I don't see why they would become active again this year and not do any new music next year. Thrice did the same thing, reunited with festival dates then made a new album.
