The point about it being intersectionality with anti-intellectualism is 100% true. If you’re forever ironic then you’ll never have to challenge or learn

I dunno, I like the overall flow of Preacher's Daughter. The more immediate songs are up front and then the darker vibe-y stuff in the back. Also really love the rural iconography that she uses in her videos for her live shows.

i'm down for 90 minutes and 9 tracks, but for God's sake, call it an album. if it's longer than your only album to date, it's an album.

To be honest EP vs album has really evolved in recent years and doesn't mean the same thing it once did. Obviously it started as the actual lengths of releases based on the medium, but in modern music where everything is digital, it really is an artistic choice. Otherwise, every Joyce Manor album would be an EP. I've listened to many "EPs" in recent years that are album length, and vice versa

Would be funny if their next "album" was 15 songs 30 min

i mean i have too (see NIN's most recent output as an example), and i guess you could say that a supplemental project like this one that's not connected to the overarching narrative of her albums could be considered an EP in the loosest sense. but it's really pushing it when your newest EP is almost 3 times as long as your other EPs (and 20 minutes longer than your last album). i get that it's all arbitrary nowadays, but even for someone as maximalist as Ethel Cain, it just doesn't make a lot of sense when compared to her other bodies of work (although i've uploaded the CD only bonus tracks from Golden Age and Inbred to my Apple Music library, so they're essentially albums at this point).

I hear ya, I think at this point I just try to let the artist lead and I care less haha. If she wants this to not be thought of as her next album, then sure, whatever, it's all just music and I'll enjoy it the same amount either way

new song is really good. 7 minutes long, rings more ambient and slightly shoegaze-y than anything else. getting STRONG Chelsea Wolfe vibes from it, but what else do you expect from the same woman who made Ptolemaea?
