Vic Berger and Chapo just released a 30 minute mini doc about Trump's post-presidency that I can guess be described as bleak realist absurdism. Great watch.

 

my only restaurant work experience was being a dishwasher at a breakfast diner as a teenager, but we were at 110 Grille last week and all of the wait staff and cooks and everyone aside from the manager were wearing shirts that said to vote a certain way on Question 5, and I wanted to ask if they were wearing those shirts because they wanted to or if the restaurant was telling them that they had do. I remember working at FedEx and the company was vehemently anti-union, but if you asked any of the people working there below management level the majority would tell you that being in a union would be awesome. I asked our waitress and she said she couldn't really talk about it, and I thought she looked over at the manager who was standing like 7 feet away, but that could be me reading way too much into it because I already had this scenario partially made up in my head

If this leads to people no longer tipping, most servers will be taking a massive paycut. Effective hourly wage with tips at decent restaurants over a pay period is going to blow minimum wage out of the water most places.

You can also still tip even if workers are getting paid regular minimum wage. At least with a version of that law that is up for vote in Michigan, it does not stop tipping from still being allowed.

Also the Against portion in that linked article mentions DC as an example, which in fairness its a clusterfuck there from when I visited over the summer because there is no standard for its actual implementation. You have some places that raised their actual menu prices, you had some places that tacked on extra fees on the bill that explicitly says where it goes, and you had some places that added on an extra fees but does not even mention where that fee goes. Article below covers that.
