I think about this a lot too. Most Trump supporters I know, or I see online, came out of *nowhere*. People who didn’t talk about - or show an interest in - politics any time prior to him. He appeals to the uneducated who have no idea about politics because he’s not a politician himself and has no politically correct way about him.

Anyone who has tried to imitate him in the Republican Party has not been taken seriously and I have no clue where the party goes after him because he’s mainly ripped most of them to shreds.

That said, unless something drastically changes, the Democratic Party is so bad too that any non-democrat will have no choice but to continue to vote against democrats - no matter who the republicans go forward with.

So either way, we’re forever fucked.

 

My sister lives in North Carolina and is doing a mail-in ballot and she says not only does she have to send in a photocopy of her ID with her ballot but it also has to either be notarized or signed by two "witnesses"

that's a voter suppression law if I ever heard one. of course it was the republicans (N.C. Republicans seem poised to override the governor's veto of new voting rules)

Yeah the mail in rules are awful here so I opted for early voting.

They also made it illegal to take a picture of your ballot or communicate with any one electronically while voting in person, which is a clear first amendment violation.

 

Trying to reconcile you describing David as a "non-super online" person.

 

This plus the article from earlier showing that the DeSantis admin is actively using state government agencies to backdoor lobby against electoral amendments the Republicans in the governor's office doesn't like. Feels borderline unconstitutional.

Don't forget the Republicans didn't have the votes to override the veto, until a Democratic state rep was made fun of on social media (that's literally the reason she gave) and switched to the GOP giving them the vote needed. She ran on being pro choice and then cast the deciding vote to restrict abortion access the second she switched sides

She's the same rep state Dems had put their thumb on the scale during her primary because her opponent was from the left wing of the party, and we certainly couldn't have that (not to mention her husband was the state Democratic chair and they divorced about the time she switched sides)

 

despite growing up on message boards, I somehow never got onto Reddit. I do have an account now but only because I signed up once to ask a question on a subreddit about some niche thing that I don’t even remember now lol. If I go on Reddit it’s usually because Google sends me there now
