It’s ‘competitive’ youth league sports. You have to try out to make the team. Nobody is guaranteed to make the team and even if you do make the team, you’re not guaranteed to play.

When we were kids, it was typically when you were in your teens - and there were very limited amount of travel teams. In today’s day and age, these travel leagues are starting at 7/8 years old, and dads are starting teams everywhere (ever hear the term ‘daddy ball’?)

Completely different from non-school sponsored/affiliated recreation leagues.

Daddy Ball, lol, amazing. I guess I only ever knew about kids sports that everyone can play and they're not that serious haha

I've also never heard of youth travel sports. Maybe because I wasn't good enough at baseball to need to know

My daughter was in gymnastics from maybe 4-7 until she lost interest. I kind of regret letting her quit. She's not a sports kid and I never put her in anything else. (also the fact that I share custody means I would need cooperation from her mom, which I can never count on)

Sports is part of what I'm looking forward to when my partner and I hopefully have another kid

Yeah I didn't do travel sports because my parents knew I'd someday be the type of person posting on absolutepunk dot net

When I was 10 I made the all star team for my little league and we traveled around playing other teams in the state in a tournament so I guess that’s the closest I’ve gotten to “travel team”.

my son is playing flag football right now and we signed up like 3 weeks late in august so I felt bad because he had no idea what he was doing. He’s gotten slightly better now and I’ve coached him up some, but he’s just not very aggressive lol. Maybe next year he’ll do better.

I played football in full pads starting at age 6 and I thought for years I’d want my son to play too, but with all the concussion shit that has come out and my son being on the smaller side, I really don’t want him to play in pads. This league only does flag for 5 and 6 year olds though so after next year if he wants to keep playing we will have to find an other league. Problem is I think those other leagues are the super competitive ones with like good players on them lol. Maybe he’ll be better by then

We're expecting number 2 in May next year, very exciting and obviously I can't wait.

I have two close friends who have been struggling with fertility issues for a long time, and it's likely parenthood outside of adoption won't happen for them, which is heartbreaking.

My wife and I shared our news to socials the other day and I heard through the grapevine that these friends while supportive, seeing that stuff is like a stab in the heart for them. I feel guilty but shouldn't?

I think that the grapevine should be quiet, haha. We struggled with fertility issues and had a loss late last year. It fucking sucked, and it was really hard on my wife when her friends/acquaintances/a person she took a class with in college that she sees on facebook once a year post that they are expecting.

There's no need to feel any sort of guilt. You aren't doing anything wrong and you deserve to be happy/have people feel happy for you. That couple is going through a very terrible time, and I know that those feelings of pain cannot be controlled. At the same time, though, it is probably best for them to step off of social media to avoid pregnancy/birth announcements. My wife muted several of our friends who were pregnant and due around the time with the child that we lost. I also think that whoever it was that told you that they were hurt should stay out of it lol

We had a loss this past summer, which was incredibly difficult. We’re happy with the one kid, but it sucks thinking about what could have been.

Thanks guys. I'm so sorry you both faced/went through losses. Can't imagine the heartbreak, hurt and emotions something like that can bring.

I'll stay positive, because it is a wonderful thing. There to support my friends too. Just enjoying and riding the whole journey.

  21. Today I took off work and stayed home to spend time with my son and it’s been the best decision / he has to wear a little boot right now - he was complaining of leg pain yesterday but X-rays were clean and the orthopedic team doesn’t know exactly why so they boot him in the cutest boot to relieve some pressure and we will be back in a week
